Ok I definitely need help with my college list. I’m very undecisive and there are a few colleges I need to get out of my list to apply to a total of 10-12 colleges. Are some you interested in helping me? I want to study Industrial Engineering. If you are willing to help I’ll post the colleges in my list right now and you could give me your honest and objective opinion! This is pretty hard and I’m by myself… My dad is going to help me too but I found useful asking for help here since it’s a college forum and there are many people that know a lot about College Selection…
- You don't need to apply to 12 colleges.
- What is your home state?
- GPA and test scores?
- I'm planning on applying to 10 or 12 colleges, less than 10 is just too few for me. I'm a US Citizen but live outside of the US for a long time so I'm open to a lot of options.
- I would be in-stater in Massachusetts, I was born there and my dad lives and works there (he's the one I'm dependant on financially)
- I don't know my GPA on a 4.0 american scale but I have a pretty high average grade in my school and I'm among the top 25% in my class. My SAT is 1660 (590 M, 520 CR, 550 W) and I will take it again in November and hopefully improve it.
Urban or rural?
Less than 5,000 students? More than 20,000 students?
What’s your/your parents’ budget?
You would need to list your stats and your collegelist for us to help you…
@Mirl98, Did you run the Net Price Calculators and figure out how you’d be paying? In your other threads you say you’re low income (Dad makes “way less” than $50k) so your current resources are the $5k Pell grant and the $5500 federal student loan. Will you be able to work this summer? That would add another ~$3k to your budget. Can your mom help out at all?
If your financial situation hasn’t changed in the last few days your best option may be to find a school that you can commute to from your dad’s. There’s a thread in the financial aid forum that lists colleges that cost less than $25k, but I don’t know that you’ll find one for less than $15k. Does your state offer grants to low income families? Look into your state schools and ask about what resources your state offers to families like yours. Good luck.
UMass amherst has a great engineering department and is a reasonable price, your SAT scores are very low though and would have to be raised a lot
