Hi, I'm looking for suggestions on my college list. I'm looking to apply to around 6 schools. I already have some colleges in mind and I want some suggestions on whether or not they are good choices and if I should add anymore to the list.

Test scores:
SAT I: Reading: 740 Math: 800 Writing: 660
SAT II: Chemistry: 800 Biology: 760
GPA: Unweighted: 3.86 Weighted: 4.51
Courses: 5 AP classes and all other classes are basically all honors.
E/C: At least 200 hours of volunteer hours. Mostly from a saturday chinese school and a program called reading buddies. Various clubs: Yearbook (editor), Chinese Club and Red Cross Club. I am not on any sports teams. Yea I know my E/Cs are not outstanding.
Graduating class size is 410
My school does not have a class rank, but it is a very competitive public school in NJ. We have kids going to ivies every year and the average sat score at my school is like 1800 with a few kids in my grade scoring perfects.
I am interested in pharmacy, chemistry/biology in general and business.

My match schools right now are Rutgers, University of Buffalo-SUNY and University of Marland all for pharmacy.
My reach schools are cornell and upenn.
I don't really have any safety schools in mind right now.
Does my list seem reasonable and how can I improve it? What other schools should I consider? I want to stay in the eastern coast of the US.

There’s a lot of territory in the rankings between the University of Maryland and Cornell. With a 1540 combined math and verbal you should have a chance for top schools. I assume from your current list that you don’t want small schools although I you would find that biology and economics would be extremely well taught in small classes at places like Williams, Amherst and Middlebury. Look at the universities in the group just below Cornell----Johns Hopkins, Emory, Rice, Brandeis, the University of Michigan. You definitely need more on your list and maybe you can reduce your “match” schools (which look more like safeties to me) to one or two that you like.

I agree with hitch123, the schools you have listed as a match are more like safeties with your stats. Your reach schools are closer to a match. Is your intended major Pharmacy? If not, I would add a few high quality LAC’s to the mix. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies. I will definitely be looking to more competitive schools. As for my major, I am very interested in pharmacy. However, if I can somehow get into a “top” college, I would look towards something more challenging than pharmacy in the science field or business.

Yeah, I don’t want to go to a small college. My preferred environment would be a larger sized school in a small city or big suburban town.

Is money a concern? If so, I’d add Pitt pre-pharm – Pitt usually provides more merit for OOS than Maryland.

I know you want to stay on the East Coast, but if you decide to branch out a bit then I’d suggest looking at Rhodes, a LAC in Memphis with a strong science program and works with St. Judes Hospital.

My parents tell me that money is not a big problem. They would even be willing to pay for Princeton or Harvard, but I know those schools are out of my reach especially since i’m asian :(
