Hi, I'm a rising junior and I hope to major in business.

The problem with me is that most of my EC's are not related to business.
Here's the list of my EC's that I've taken so far.
- Varsity basketball - Captain
- Varsity Soccer
- Newspaper - Editor in chief
- Yearbook - Editor in chief
- NHS - President
- Orchestra Honors 1st chair
- Band (Auditioned)
- Model UN
- Founder of GC (International interaction club)

My volunteering activities are also not related to business: helping out southeast asian children, working at a library and a local children's home.

I do have an internship at a local business company but I'm afraid that my EC's are too spread out and do not have any "hook". I'm in a hard situation because my peers and other students at my school are not interested in business. They aren't interested in joining a business club that I really want to host.

Please give me suggestions. Thank you in advance.

If you are interested in business you could show some entrepreneurial spirit. Instead of lamenting for the lack of opportunities, create an opportunity yourself. Can you start up a small business on your own? Could you raise some funds and come up with a creative idea? I realize how difficult that is but if you are looking for a “hook”, this sounds like a good one :)

Good luck!

@suqmadiq: Mods will probably ban you pretty soon.

Being frank, your ECs aren’t exactly incredible. They’re not things that shine out.

I can relate to being in your position (especially with people not caring enough to join a business club), but, there are ways out, you just have to look for them. Why not start a business? Starting a small business is not easy, but, it isn’t mind bogglingly difficult either.

I’m basically an engineering person, with a passion for business (my startup: [Nimblenotes](http://www.nimblenot.es/)).

Also, financial background is never bad. Try trading the market by investing your own money, and, once you’ve got a grip on it, others. I read a very interesting thread where a guy was running a hedge fund by 11th grade, with half a million dollars in capital.

Thank you for your advice. In fact I’ve been continually making an effort to create an opportunity, and I was just recently frustrated at the lack of support from my peers. Yes, I will continue to seek opportunities. Starting a business of my own sounds like a good idea. Would colleges look at it badly if they find out that I started my business lately in my junior year? I want to show them that I was passionate for business since young.

Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking. My EC’s are acceptable but also they are not incredible and will not stand out among tons of applications. I will probably start a business since nobody at my school seems to be interested. Investing money is a good idea, I might take an attempt at it. In fact, I think your suggestion really helped me because my dad works in investment. I think I can ask him for suggestions. Thanks!

And yes, @suqmadiq, I agree that you will be banned pretty soon, although your effort to post a reply is appreciated.

Your business seems very interesting. Did you start this business in high school?
