Hello, for my Common App essay I would like to write about how writing inspires me and has shaped my character. Do you think it sounds like a good topic? The thing is, I may not apply to a major that is directly related to writing. So would colleges wonder why I didn't choose a major like English when I am so passionate about writing?

Don’t worry about what your major will be. Any topic is good if it represents you and your interests well. If you are a good writer you can write on any topic. Hopefully you can make this interesting and insightful. It does sound a bit of a snoozefest, but if you think you have something to say then go for it.

If writing is something you’re passionate about then chances are your essay will be much better than if you were writing on a subject that you thought would “sound good” to the admissions committee. Go with your gut instinct on this one! And as everyone says, “Just be yourself” and your personal statement will shine. The admissions essay is a place to show what makes you special, not a place to write about what major you’re interested in and why you’d be a good fit, so it shouldn’t matter that you’re not interested in a Writing major. You can download this free book on how to write a great essay at [How to Write A Personal Statement | Dear Admissions](<a href=“DearAdmissions.com is for sale | HugeDomains”>HugeDomains.com) and check out the section titled “Original Face” on page 14. Hope this was helpful!

It’s a great topic, but you will have to write it well since it is about writing after all. I think it should not be about how good a writer you are, but about how writing inspires you.
