I am a sophmore, and upcoming junior.
Well, I did my schedule and it looks like it’s going be…
Honors Math B (5/6)
Physics
Honors English
AP Chemistry
AP US History
AP Psychology
Now, I am trying to decide whether or not I should take AP English Language and Comp… Any ideas? How does this schedule look? demanding? I mean, physics and AP Chem is pretty tough, but I want a challenge… Anyone take a similar course load?
Note: I already took AP World History (BUT ILL PROBABLY CANCEL GRADE) and AP Biology this year.
Can anyone give their opinions?

I would appreciate some help.. anyone care to respond?

Also, I personally do not feel that I am the best writer (I am pulling around a 93 in English Honors). Would I be able to handle AP Enlgish Lang and Comp.?

Do you mean AP english in place of Honors English or in addition to?

I think you would definitely be able to handle it if you put a decent amount of effort in, but I don't think that it is absolutely necessary by any means since the rest of your schedule seems solid.

I see.. How time-consuming would this class be, as far as essays, reading, etc. (though, it obviously depends on the teacher)?

Anyone else?

No foreign language? I guess I'd save physics for next year, and then take the AP version,. Honors English is fine with your math/science interest, but you should have a foreign language.

I'm finishing it this year.
(I got 1 year credit for Spanish from JHS)

My school doesn't offer any higher level Spanish (excluding the class for Spanish Natives).

What do you mean finished? You already took AP Spanish?

Hmm. So you will only have two high school years, through Spanish III?

No, it's three years (ONLY TWO ACTUALLY IN HIGH SCHOOL) One year was from JHS Spanish (I passed an exam and got one year credit for HS), then freshman year was the second year, and now as a sophmore, I am taking my THIRD year in Spanish (and I'm preparing for the Spanish regent exam because I live in NY),

CONGRATS ON 500!

note: I took honors Spanish, if that matters..

HaHa! i just noticed!

I see. I'm not familiar with the New york tests and standards. Here in California, Spanish is offered through Spanish V AP - many kids take it all the way through high school at least to Spanish IV. Could you take the AP test then, or does the regents take the place of that?

Well, the regents are known to be PRETTY EASY :) and I don't think I would be prepared AT ALL to take the AP exam. I also have NO INTENTIONS on self-studying for the AP exam, so that solves foreign language. Did you take AP English Lang. and Comp?

Anyone else have any opinons or take a similar schedule and wish to share your experience?

I think that the difficulty of AP English Lang and Comp depends on the teacher and the readings for the particular class. You should ask kids at your school who have taken it this year and see what they say.

Damn.. Well, this would be the first time that this course is offered. We always had Literature AP, but not Language AP.

One thing for sure - the class would improve your writing. Maybe it would be a good thing for that reason...? Maybe drop the psychology, and just take the Language AP instead. That would still be a challenging schedule. I bet the Language would take you farther both in what you would learn, and in how it would look on your transcript than the psych, and you could have a free period (if your school does that) to study.

Math honors B
AP US history
AP Language & Comp
AP Chem
Physics

be as demanding as you want, but make sure you get good grades. that should be prioritized first. nobody knows you better than yourself ;)

true.. and i agree

but can anyone share their own experiences with these classes?

A/O a summary of AP English Lang and Comp.

hmmm...well i loved AP language and comp but that was because we had a great class and a great teacher

no one on this board is really going to know how APs work at your school--what might be the easiest class at my school could be the toughest at yours...

For my school, the English APs are by far the hardest and most time-consuming (lit and comp has basically taken over my life this year) but I really enjoyed learning about rhetoric and stuff my junior year. If you like some more non-fiction, or more about how words are used to convey things, more indepth study, that's what comes to mind about lang. you are going to be looking for tone more than theme, and closereading passages rather than talking as much about big picture and symbols

again, i have no idea what the class is like at your school, so i would ask kids you know who have taken it what they thought, particularly about workload. only you know how much you can handle...
