Help with new colleges

So I recently applied to Columbia College, Marymount Manhattan and Drew University in order to assure I am going somewhere for theatre this fall. I still have to hear from some colleges and am waitlisted at two schools so well see...
I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on these three colleges and their theatre programs and if anyone could offer good colleges for theatre that are still accepting applications (even BA programs).

Actr - good luck with the waitlists! I know that is a difficult kind of limbo, but you should be proud of that accomplishment.

There are many, many schools with rolling admissions that have nice BA programs - too many to list here.

One school I would recommend would be Hofstra University on Long Island. They have rolling admissions and very nice performing arts programs, including a BA-BFA option (audition later) similar to Columbia College.

My D was accepted to Hofstra and really liked the program. She was especially interested in their study abroad program.

Here is a list of non-audition or audition after a certain time in the program BFAs. Much more finite list than the BAs, as EmmyBet mentioned. I am not saying to only look at the BFAs! Just happen to know this list exists and you may want to check out some of the schools to see if they are still accepting applications:

I will be hoping some of those waitlists turn into acceptances for you.

I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in '98, so my info might be out of date.

CCC has a “hands-on” approach to teaching, it’s very practical. Their faculty are all Chicago arts professionals, so the theatre faculty are all professional theatre people. So the approach is that used in professional Chicago theatre, which means that it is more Viola Spolin than Lee Strasberg (we would only mention Strasberg to make fun of him!). The theatre department has strong ties to the Second City, and is a good place to get a Second City style training without getting in to Second City.

There are a HUGE number of opportunities to become involved in shows, because not only is there a mainstage season, the directing students all direct their own projects and are constantly looking for folks to be in their shows.

I have no hesitation in recommending CCC for theatre, even though it has an open admissions policy and so is considered by everyone a “safety school”

KEVP

Thank you so much for your advice. I love some of the schools that you have suggested!

I am familiar with Drew. They have a good theater department, and the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (an excellent repertory theater, which regularly attracts top NY stage actors) is based on their campus (although it is completely independent of the university). The train to NYC is located walking distance from campus (albeit a fairly long walk in inclement weather). I didn’t realize that Drew had rolling admissions. I know that they rank among the most expensive colleges in the country, if money is an issue for you.
