Hello CC! My family and I are current California residents for more than 30 years now. The problem is I am a rising junior this summer and want to stay in Cali. My parents want to move to Texas after I graduate high school, but I want to stay in Cali and go to a UC/CSU. If my parents move to Texas but I stay here in Cali, would my financial aid (Pell Grant, UC blue and gold) be affected?
You will maintain California residency for tuition purposes if:
the student reached the age of majority in California while his parents were residents for tuition purposes of this state AND the California resident parents left the state to establish a residence elsewhere AND the student continued to reside in the State of California after the parents’ departure.
Pell Grant is Federal aid which will not be affected by state residency. Cal Grants/Blue and Gold are California financial aid and if you meet the above requirement, you will remain eligible.
