Hello everyone,
I applied for the ucla care extenders group and was accepted into the program. However, the training day is on the same day as the first day of my orientation(session 107). The training day is mandatory and i will not be able to participate in the program unless i attend the training day. I called the orientation office and the only sessions they have left is session 111. I don't really want to attend orientation that late. ( i don't want to have trouble getting the classes i want).
So i was just wondering what people do on the first day of orientation. If i choose to just skip the first day, will i miss anything important that i could not otherwise find out the second day? thank you for the help!

The most important thing to do on the first day would be taking the math and music placement exams, unless you’ve scored high enough on the AP exam for math. Meet up with your orientation group and tell the counselor you have to leave. Exchange phone numbers first! The most important day is the third day anyway.

Well i scored a 4 on my AP Statistics Test. Does that test me out of it? I did not take the AP calculus test… The problem is i have to be at the ucla hospital in santa monica at 8-5, and that is the check in time. What should i do??
thanks for the help.

No, only the Calc test can test you out.

Why not call the orientation people and ask to switch to an earlier date? It costs only 10 bucks, someone I know did that.

1st day is pretty important… i wouldn’t skip it if i could help it

you should definitely attend the first day

without taking the math placement, you can’t enroll in math classes
even if you take the math placement, you have to start with math 3a if you pass

i see that you’re attending a volunteer orientation, thus i’m assuming you’re interested in the health field

so you should definitely start on math 3a your first quarter.

i wouldn’t miss it if i were you =/

Don’t you need to check in?
It says on the website that if you do not check in on the first day by like 5pm, you automatically get dropped…
If you wanna do both, just take the later session… or go to orientation, check in, and go to your training…
You can take the math session on another orientation date like 108, 109, 110 etc… Just make sure you check in… but i still suggest you not missing a day since day 1 and day 2 are full of info and day 3 is just a tour basically

Day three is when you sign up for classes, no? I say the beginning of day three and, in your case, the beginning if day 1 are the most important. I found the rest of orientation a waste of time, unless you’re looking to get a nice tan walking around a lot

I thoroughly enjoyed all three days of orientation. I recommend not missing any significant portion of orientation.

Well you can sign up at home… Enrolling into classes is easy (it’s like logic) and you didn’t even have to do it at the OC’s room ![]()
For the orientation session, let’s say you have orientation 106, it’ll open at 9am for everyone there… and if you are in 108, same thing…
Or so I was told lol…

Anyways, all three days are important and fun filled :]
