Help with Portfolio

LilyMoon
I made the appointment to visit NP in Feb, that's the only day off from high school but class in session that is not yet fully booked.
Do we have to trek through feet of snow from bus stop or what?
It got to be perfect experience otherwise he won't be motivated to work harder.

////He wants to double major in Comm and Graphic Design...so the portfolio is for the Graphic Design acceptance. He is struggling to come up with ideas for the essay, although I think he should focus on what drew him to his interest in art and why he chose Graphic Design. Any other suggestions are very welcome.////

In my time reviewing graduate and transfer applications for a major art college, I looked at the portfolio first, and transcript second. If both met the criteria, I would "recommend" the student and assign courses as necessary regardless of the other application elements. The "Statement of Purpose" never made or broke a student's acceptance largely because most students overwrite them, and the majority were redundant and not necessarily relevant to whether their portfolio or transcripts were acceptable or not. My best advice is to be straightforward, to the point, and short. Keep in mind that this was my practice at one school and limited to transfer and graduate applicants.

bears and dogs - Good luck with your visit....I hope you don't hit really bad weather either!

RainingAgain - thanks for your insight into the portfolio review process. The portfolio is in and we are waiting on the decision. I will post the answer when it comes in.
