I ultimately want to go to medical school at ucsd, uci, or ucla. I am currently applying for my undergraduate schools at UChicago, Johns Hopkins, Boston University, Harvard University, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, Claremonet McKenna, and USC. However, I am not sure which majors prepare me best for the MCAT and medical school or allow me to enter medical school. I was thinking BME, but what other majors would be adequate for medical school?

Thanks,
Carter

From what has been told by the (former) med students on this forum, no major is going to prepare you for medical school - it is it’s own animal. The point of the pre-med reqs is to prepare you for the MCAT but different majors can supplement this in different ways. Liberal Arts/Humanities/Philosophy majors tend to do well on the Critical Reading portion of the MCAT because of they way they learn to think, science majors are obviously going to do better on the that portion of the MCAT, etc. Every major is going to “allow” you to enter medical school so don’t let that deter you either.

I’ll give you the same advice that’s been doled out on this thread literally thousands of times - “major in what you want.”

Well I ultimately want to work in La Jolla or Newport Beach as an orthopedic surgeon. It is also within about an hour of where I currently live and I want my kids to grow up there and play water polo in those cities and yada yada yada but yeah. and thanks mom

Like I said, your major doesn’t really matter. If you want to go into ortho though, you need to get tremendous scores wherever you go (for UG and grad) because it’s very selective now.
