help with public speaking

i’m a somwhat shy high school sophomore girl.

i have to give a speech in front of around 50 people because i am running for an executive board position in a club at my school.

i’m super scared and public speaking typically does not go well for me; my cheeks turn light pink and i stutter sometimes and i’m bad at eye contact and looking at ppl in crowds.

please help me out. i need tips to appear confident and give a good speech and not stumble on my words.

big thanks to anyone who decides to help me out :))

  1. Know your topic. I always feel the most confident when I know what I am talking about.
  2. This is common…most people are nervious.
  3. People don’t care about you/how you speak as much as you think ( http://www.dominicv.net/people-dont-care-much-thats-okay/)
  4. Practice your speech out loud to yourself in the mirror. Make sure you look up from time to time.
  5. You should not have an entire speech to read…maybe the first time you could write it all out so you know what you want to say. But then have note cards with just bullet items of the topics as reminders.
  6. Practice your speech in front of your friend/family
  7. Exposure to public speaking will help you gain confidence.
