help with realistic college list

Pepperdine would NOT be LGBT friendly!

Look into Occidental, UCSB, UCI, UCB, USC, Scripps, Rice, UT Austin, and Southern Methodist (they come up under SuperMatch as LGBT friendly).

Re: Pepperdine

Page 109 of http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/studentaffairs/content/handbook/handbook_2014.pdf indicates that “Pepperdine University affirms that sexual relationships are designed by God to be expressed solely within a marriage between husband and wife.”

However, note that the computer industry, at least in Silicon Valley, tends to be more LGB-friendly than the region and the state, according to http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/how-rare-are-anti-gay-marriage-donations-in-silicon-valley/ . So CS may be a major where major-related career directions are less inhibited by anti-LGB discrimination than some other career directions.

Wow, I guess I have to apologize for mentioning Pepperdine! I had no idea how anti-LGBTQ they were.

It does seem that many posters do not realize that Pepperdine is a conservative religious school, so it seems to appear on lists where it is an outlier.

Consider Smith and Mt. Holyoke. You’d get the attmosphere you’d like, and (similar to Scripps with the Claremont colleges,) would have access to UMass courses as well as their own. Might not be everything you are looking for, but perhaps an option to consider.

I would not head to Pepperdine if looking for LGBT-friendly schools. It’s a super conservative Christian fundamentalist university.
