This is my super rough draft of my reinstatement letter. I know it needs lots of work. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you!

Dear Reinstatement Committee:

I am writing in regards to petition for reinstatement into XXX University for Spring Semester 2015. I was very saddened, but not surprised, to be informed of my academic disqualification. I would like to encourage the decision to reinstate me for next semester.

The circumstances I believe that led to my disqualification were my lack of motivation, family issues, and poor use of time management. While attending XXX State for two years I found myself lacking motivation as each semester passed. At one point it seemed as if I had no motivation. I searched for motivation from my family and others instead of searching for motivation within myself. When I chose to attend XXX State I knew it was a new chapter in my life. I viewed it as a chance to grow as an individual and focus on myself and my education. Unfortunately, I allowed my family to interfere. Before coming to XXX I had felt as if my family held me back with their own issues. Once I was in XXX I believed the distance would allow me a way out from their issues. No matter the distance I still allowed their issues to consume me. The amount of worry that consumed me drove me away from focusing on my education. Time management has always been a struggle of mine. I always seem to take on more obligations then I could handle. In my second year of attending XXX State I took on a job at the children’s center. I was attending school full time and working part time. As time went on I found myself struggling to manage time to finish school work, attend class, and be to work on time. Instead of managing my time to do homework and attend classes I was spending more time at work.

My circumstances have changed tremendously. The time I have spent away from school has allowed me to reevaluate myself. I no longer search for motivation from others. I instead have worked within myself to find motivation. I believe having the motivation to do anything is extremely valuable. The relationship I have with my family is important but I have now learned that there is a point when you draw the line. My education is important for my future and my family understands. I will no longer let others issues interfere with my education. Knowing that time management is a struggle of mine I chose to work to become better at managing my time. I manage to have a job and allow myself the adequate amount of time to maintain my job and other important activities in life.

I plan to implement the changes I have made within myself for next semester. I have so much motivation and I am so driven to succeed. Learning to manage my time as allowed me to become successful. I know school is time consuming and I plan to set aside as much time as needed to each individual class in order to successfully complete my school work and pass all my classes. I also plan to set goals and do everything in my power to reach them to my full potential.

I have heard so many great things about the services offered at the library. I regretfully did not use any of the services offered in the library. Upon returning I would definitely use the tutoring services as well as the writing center. I would also like take full advantage of my professor’s office hours and seek help from classmates.

My major is Elementary Education with a possible minor in Child Development.
