Help with Research

Hey guys, havent been on here in a while, good to be back. Well here's the thing, im a sophmore now and i really want to get started on a research project hopefully something that will take through senior year and maybe onto intel. I want some advice on how to get started and etc. Where i should start looking for mentors and stuff. My school doesnt have a program for this sort of stuff so im looking to the geniuses at cc. Plz give any advise or help that you may have. I would really appreciate it!

People aren't just going to give you an idea to research, because they would be doing it. Facts of life.

Well, im not specifically asking for an idea to research. Rather im asking for a way in which to get started. Where I should start looking, who should i ask and etc.

If there aren't like any scientific company, I would suggest asking a doctor if they are doing research. Try going to colleges; they have TONS of research projects that they are doing, I would think.

Or apply for some research summer program, likeUFlorida SSTP.

I'm in the same position as you. I just need an idea for a research project. I applied to some summer programs (I would suggest doing the same) where I will be doing research if I am accepted. I suppose that the professors will help with an idea if you have a general idea of what subject you want to do it in.

where does one find scientific articles besides google and pubmed... i want to read them just out of interest, but all i can find are abstracts

Some peer-reviewed Journals are online. Many Journals will be available at the nearest university library. My son looks over articals in his field of interest, reads the abstracts (usually one long, difficult paragraph per article), and then finds one or two he'd like to read. He reads them carefully, making notes and researching definitions where he's uncertain of them. Keeps a binder of all of the articles he's read.

From this he has originated a number of research ideas of his own. Right now he is contacting some faculty members who wrote the papers he liked best (and understood best) to see if he can find some research opportunities. KKL and pyroman, I hope this method might help each of you.
