They have a very nice casual outdoor restaurant that overlooks both sides. Plus, the inside La Concha restaurant and bar. I believe there is another casual indoor restaurant. It also has a very nice lobby to just sit and people watch.
Also, this was 6 months before the hurricane, so I don’t know what the palm trees look like outside now. I would get on TripAdvisor .
Daughter got back to me and said it looked amazing, she had already looked into it but was told it was adults only. I called, they said they are primarily adults, but one of the 3 pools is a kids pool. Daughter is looking back into it. The location and amenities look great.
We have stayed at LaConcha with kids. They were around 5 and 8 at the time. Cool modern vibe in the rooms, great pool and beach. I remember walking to restaurants, but this was just for a few days before a cruise about 10 yrars ago. I would stay there again though.
I should mention we also stayed there 20 years ago at ElCaribe Hilton. It was also nice, but we preferred LaConcha. Things we enjoyed with and without kids: the rain forest, old san juan, El Morro, some hole in the wall restaurants, Bacardi Distillery, a neat old church where an explorer is burried (ponce De Leon maybe?) And beaches.
We just booked a 4-night trip to Puerto Rico in February. We are not really beach resort people, we prefer to get out and about and immerse ourselves in the local culture. We are staying 2 nights in Old San Juan at Casa Sol, a B&B that has all 10/10 reviews. Then moving to an Airbnb in Luquillo for 2 nights. This is our first trip to PR, and I really knew nothing about it when I started my trip planning. This thread has been very helpful! The B&B and Airbnb hosts have also already given me a lot of great information, but I welcome any additional recs from you folks!
You will have a lovely time. I wouldn’t consider us beach people either, but I just love a hotel with a balcony I can sit at and look at the ocean with my coffee in the morning, or slip on my bathing suit and go and walk the shore, or relax on a lounge chair with my aching feet after a long day of immersion in the culture of the place I am visiting. They are not mutually exclusive.
OSJ is beautiful, especially at night. Don’t forget to visit Barrachina’s, the home of the Pina Colada.
Thanks for all the great suggestions here. After D and SIL researched all of them, they changed course and we will now be going to Marco Island, FL. They found a great VRBO with a covered pool (in case of rain) that is a 5 minute walk to the beach, great restaurants and a Publix. D and SIL will be going out by themselves for his birthday dinner, so any nice restaurant suggestions for that would be great. It will be on a Friday night in case reservations are necessary.
