Help with scholarship interview outfit, please!

Royal purple and white - Go Furman!

(Thank you google.)

The perfect spring color that would not be "too much" for a young lady (harder for the guys to pull that color off) -- go for it!

Furman University....the Purple Paladins...one of my best friends, her H and her D are all Furman grads.

hmmm. well idk about "southern style" b/c I'm kinda from NY, haha.
But a tip: be careful with a white skirt. If something happens to get on it before the interview, it can be really annoying. Your interviewer may not even notice it, but I know I, personally, would be aware of it and self-conscious, and that would make me insecure and not as focused on the interview.
Black might be too severe for the a warm southern day...maybe a charcoal gray or tweed/houndstooth skirt? A nice pattern or something would also be fine.
Then, you can wear the sweater over. Collared shirt would be fine I think, but I don't think its necessary. But will she be too hot? Maybe a better bet would be a button down shirt with a cardigan over, so she can take it off if she wants

And for the shoes....I'm not quite sure what color shoes you'd wear with a white skirt, b/c white would be too matchy and same with pink. I guess you could wear black? And maybe wear some black jewelry or a black headband so that it goes.

If she's tall, I'd say some nice flats. If she's shorter, and can walk in them, some pumps would be nice.

Cheap shoes:

I would make sure the shoes are comfortable and broken in...the last thing you want to worry about is blisters!

You are all so wonderful! D has some great ideas to work with! Thank you so much.

Ballet flats are ideal shoes for daytime events.
J.Crew has some great pairs (a bit pricey).

(<a href="http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/category.jhtml?id=cat160191&_requestid=122620%5B/url%5D">http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/category.jhtml?id=cat160191&_requestid=122620</a>)</p>

I told my Furman grad friend about this thread. The first thing she said was "preppy".

^^^there you go
sweater+pearls
or
collared shirt+cardigan
with
printed A-line skirt
and
ballet flats

Navy blue blazer, straight skirt (to the knee), oxford blouse, STOCKINGS, and low-heeled pumps would be very appropriate for Furman. Don't forget the pearls.

If the school is located in the south, I'm assuming it would be warm: would a blazer AND stockings be appropriate weatherwise?

and I thought the blue blazer-khaki think was more for guys...I always thought A line skirt+cardi would be more appropriate for girls.

i kind of feel like an outfit that extreme might cuase her to be percieved as stuffy.

"Southern style"? Really, there isn't such a thing. The media seems to have perpetuated such nonsense as "hose all the time" and "Sunday best".

Perhaps a nice skirt and a brightly (but not too bright) colorerd sweater/dress shirt.
