Help With Short Answer on Application

Is anyone willing to read over my essay for me? I really, really, would love any help in the application to Amherst.

Prompt 2: “Literature is the best way to overcome death. My father, as I said, is an actor. He’s the happiest man on earth when he’s performing, but when the show is over, he’s sad and troubled. I wish he could live in the eternal present, because in the theater everything remains in memories and photographs. Literature, on the other hand, allows you to live in the present and to remain in the pantheon of the future. Literature is a way to say, I was here, this is what I thought, this is what I perceived. This is my signature, this is my name.”

I’m willing to PM or give you my contact (email) if needed. Thank you in advance.

Also, would a score of 2170 (CR: 750, Writing/Math: 710) as well as 3 SAT Subject Tests (Korean, Math II, And Lit all 730+) be enough to get into Amherst?

I want to major in English for sure as well as Psychology, so I don’t see much importance in the math section, despite getting a somewhat low score than what I had hoped for.

I can offer some feedback if you need :)

As for the SAT score, it would have been nice to see 2250+, but I wouldn’t count your scores out of Amherst’s range either.

@BarrelBlaster‌ : Oh shoot, I knew I should have retaken the SATs. Anyhow, do you mind if I PM you my essay? Thank you for responding!

More than happy to help, if you still need it.

Technically speaking, there is never an ‘‘enough’’ when it comes to SATs, nor is there a minimum. At the end of the day, Amherst and many other top colleges have a holistic approach that factors in your SAT, but doesn’t let it get in the way of a good candidate. Unless he/she totally bombed it, lol.

There’s nothing wrong with your score - personally, I like to think anything above 2100 is competitive. Don’t regret not retaking the test because with the scores you have now, believe me when I tell you that even if you get rejected/wait-listed, it’s not going to be because of them.

Also, I’m a deferred ED applicant and my essays are already submitted, so if you still need someone to look through yours (yikes, last minute notification much), I’m free to do it.
