Hi! Okay, so here's the deal.
I am trying to work on my essays and am so incredibly lost. How does one go about writing the Statement of Purpose with an undeclared major and wanting to get into the Undergraduate Studies program? Is this a bad idea? Does being undeclared make me look bad compared to other transfer students?

Would it be better to go undeclared in Liberal Arts (I've heard it's pretty easy to get into), transfer within later, and have undergraduate studies as my second choice?

Either way, I'm not sure what to focus on in my Statement of Purpose essay if I'm undeclared.
Which of these two options would be the better route, and what should I mainly focus on in this essay?
Any help would be appreciated!

It’s usually a good idea to be honest. Let’s leave it at that.

Hi upsidedownn,

A statement of purpose essay has to deal with you conveying to UT why you deserve to go there. You don’t necessarily have to describe to them your future plans, but rather tell them that you will find your way there and that UT can transform your life, just like how they transform or “change” the world. There is no specific way to structure a statement of purpose. Also, the Liberal Arts school might be a better option for you as a transfer, because Undergraduate Studies has been more reserved for incoming freshmen. (unless you are a freshman?) Being undeclared is not a horrible thing while applying to UT. Be sure to focus on “bragging about yourself” and how you will “use your talents or desires” to go out there and change the world, like UT. (UT loves to read about themselves in your essay.)
