Hey there!

So I know very little about the Subject Tests as the ACT is much more common to take where I go to school; in fact only two other students have even taken the SAT in my class. Additionally, my school is very small (378 in the entire school) and does not offer AP or Honors classes. So I don't really know how my chances are with these tests. I am very good at self teaching myself so that should help me.

I plan on taking Math II, Chemistry, and Literature. I should be pretty set with these as I have been in the advanced math program and will be taking Calculus at a University next year and have also taken Chem last year. However, I'm not entirely sure what to expect and I definitely need some sort of guides to study with. What books or online material do you guys recommend for the above subjects?

Thanks so much!

SAT II’s are used to demonstrate knowledge in areas that you are strong in and may or may not have taken classes in.
I think your list sounds good. Most good colleges usually “recommend” 3 or more Subjects.
However, unlike AP’s I don’t think they give you college credit.
Personally I’ve had a good experience using Kaplan, but Princeton Review is good too. I especially liked Princeton Review’s “Math I and II Tests” in one book; it was pretty useful. You can get these really cheap off of EBay, Amazon, Overstock, etc.

If you haven’t studied a subject in which you are taking the test, you should probably get a Barron’s study guide to go with it. Also, if you study using an AP study guide for the same subject, you should be pretty much set in most cases because AP’s are almost always (except for some history tests) a harder version of the Subject tests, which are only an hour long.

If you haven’t taken the SAT I, Lit might be tricker for you; it’s actually pretty similar to the SAT. You might want to try out Thinkwell, it’s an online resource. Otherwise, your local library will be your greatest asset with regards to study guides. Don’t just try one, try a lot (including Barron’s, which is really great) until you find one you like.

Let me know if I helped!

Thank you so much, I will look into those guides. And Yes, I have taken the SAT I but I didn’t do so hot on it (1860) despite having a high ACT score. So we shall see how things work out.
