I am a 'to be' freshman at de Anza this fall
does De anza have the tap/tag with berkeley and UCLA?
if yes,how and when does one enroll in it ! (pls help)
and
how does one enroll in the honors program.
sorry if I sound so uninformed.I am a US citizen who currently resides in India
Help appreciated
waiting in anticipation
Cheers !

Meet with a counselor.

I so wish I had one here in India
Bump !!!

As far as I know, there are no TAG or TAP options to UCLA or Berkeley from De Anza. If you attend their sister school, Foothill College (6 miles away), and you are in their honors institute, you can TAP (not TAG) to UCLA.

De Anza does, however, offer TAGs to UC Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz.

If you want to double check, ask a De Anza counselor via their Online Advisor:

Good luck to you.

Just so you know UCLA and Berkeley don’t have a TAG program anywhere and UCSD’s will be discontinued after 2014. TAP for UCLA is an honors program at your CC and it can help you in admission to UCLA by allowing you to pick a second major and showing that you completed an honors curriculum. TAP at Berkeley is entirely different and is a program for advising low-income/disadvantaged minority CC students and has no direct effect on the admission process. Basically they just help you apply to Berkeley, but it’s not a certification program like TAP to UCLA that says you completed a series of courses or anything.

Exactly what dilapidatedmind said.

You apply for TAG the year before you transfer.

Thanks @HokumPeddler @dilapidatedmind @Robelius
@ALL,I fall in the extremely low income bracket (if you convert Indian rupee to Dollar, its embarrassing mentioning it even)

De Anza doesn’t TAP with Cal? Disturbing … why do so many go to De Anza then? :(

How did you find the info? I’ve been sitting for 10 days now and couldn’t find anything that substantial.
Do you have any idea if Diablo Valley,Ohlone or Santa Monica or Pasadena city college
offer both; with Cal and UCLA
Help appreciated
Cheers!!

Berkeley and UCLA do not TAG with any schools. You can try to apply to TAP once you’re at De Anza.

I know this information because I’m part of TAG for Berkeley.

@Robelius --How could you TAG for berkeley? there ain’t one !
how did you TAP for berkeley though?
you got an invite? what was the eligibility criterion ? :)

Oh sorry. I meant to say I’m a part of TAP for Berkeley.

I applied to Berkeley as a senior in high school. I was rejected, but they did invite me to join TAP. I filled out a page of paperwork, and I was in. The eligibility requirements are being a minority, low income, and having parents without college experience. I met the lack of college background and minority requirements.

It sounds like you think TAP for Berkeley is a golden ticket to get it. It’s not. The program provides guidance and opportunities to make you a competitive applicant, but in the end it’s all up to you to actually do the work.

Great!
It surely isn’t a golden ticket but I really don’t want to leave a stone unturned.
Yes, hard work is the key
But how do I get an invite sitting here in India.I don’t even have a counselor.

ItSucksBigtime

How do I make them invite me ??

I’ll talk to my TAP counselor and ask her what you should do.

@Robelius — That’ll really be great
Which CC are you in?
and thanks again mate :)

If you google “TAP Berkeley” the first hit is their website here:
[Transfer Alliance Project | Center for Educational Partnerships](TAP | Center for Educational Partnerships)

At the bottom is a contact if you want to let them know you’re interested

“For further information about participating in the TAP program: Contact Director Keith Schoon (510) 643-7159, schoon@berkeley.edu”

I’m attending SRJC

Thank you soo much Everyone!! I guess this clears everything
All the best everyone
Cheers

Preetsingh,
As a U.S. citizen you do not need to get an invitation to enter the U.S. and enroll in a community college in California. Just pack your bags, make sure your U.S. passport is still up to date(If it is expired just take it to the U.S. Embassy or an American and they will issue you a new one), get on a plane and fly to California. you can then go to any community college in the state since community colleges have no entrance requirements. You could probably start school during the summer sesion. Try to get California resident status. It will lower the tuition.
