Help with theater programs still open to applications

A talented boy in our community theater from a school with little support and from a disadvantaged home was rejected from his state school options (both audition competitive) and I’d love to give him advice on programs he can still apply to at this late date. Northeast or midwest, BA or BFA, not high academically or too costly but URM and a lovely kid. Wish I’d known this sooner to help him. Ideas?

If I recall correctly U arts in Philadelphia had a late application and late audition last year…

I think Marymount Manhattan College has one more audition date Mar 7. It might be too expensive - financial aid application (FAFSA) deadline is Mar 15.

Temple University in Philly.

At Western Kentucky University the audition for the BFA is at the end of the 3rd semester (middle of sophomore year).

Check out University of Southern Maine. BA in Theatre

Check out Drew University in NJ…great theater department. How about University of Rhode Island BFA non auditioned?

Thanks, he is checking out all of these, now! (PS I’d suggested Drew immediately because of your previous posts!)

Also take a look at Columbia College (Chicago), Millikin, Point Park, Plymouth State University, Rhode Island College, Rider University, Catawba (might be too far south) Ohio Northern, and Montclair State. I think all of these are still auditioning (though deadlines are coming up fast) but some of them may not have any scholarship money left (though hopefully there will be aid money if he gets the FAFSA in on time). I think Columbia College is non-audition; Ohio Northern is scholarship only audition; I think the rest are audition schools (but someone correct me if i am wrong!) Best of luck!

Salem State University in Massachusetts is inexpensive and still accepting rolling apps until March 1, or until the program is full. Its a non audition BFA.

Is this a new non-auditioned BFA? I don’t remember that one being on the list. I just took a look and the BFA is auditioned but in sophomore year…

@bisouu yes, I believe they audition in their sophomore year. I have a friend whose S just graduated from the program last year.
