Help with thinking up of examples

How do you guys think up of examples for the essay? I mean it takes me quite a bit of time just to come up with some mediocre things to write about. Are there any universal examples (literary, historical, or w/e) that you guys could offer me and could you guys give me some tips on how to approach the essay?

Like I was just looking over some prompts and one of the things I came across was "Is the world changing for the better?" I was literally brain dead, I couldn't come up with anything and it's not even a hard prompt -_-.

*sorry if I'm getting repetitive with the writing threads, but I truly believe that writing is the only thing I could improve on with only days before the test

yes please, help us!! I have the same problem. My mind goes blank after i read a prompt.

Haha I'm going to tell you a secret.
I had the same problem as you guys have. But I decided to just take the easy way. I always want to have 2-3 examples. So if my mind goes blank, I just make something up. I did that with my previous essay as well. They are not able to check it, so whatever! I just tell them I did something in my life that relates to the topic, although its a lie =).
You can do the same with other things like books and movies.

But please, do n

stevenhilton, mind telling us ur writing score for the SAT??

Yea make up a personal experience, or a book. But never make up history.

What I usually do is use a book, and kind of bend the story line of the book to make it fit the topic.

There are certain books that contain many themes that lend themselves very well to SAT essays... Check SparkNotes for books you have read and know well. Read the summaries, themes, characters, etc. Pick 3 books that you might use. Know who the authors are b/c it should be included in your essay. Think of a couple of historical examples, for example The Great Depression.
