Since the explanations offered are ------- to the exposition, it would be unfair to treat them as ------- parts of the studies under consideration.

A.tangential . . subsidiary
B.irrelevant . . superfluous
C.referable . . correspondent
D.incidental . . essential
E.crucial . . immutable

i chose B because if something is irrelevant then having an over amount of something contradicts it. The answer is D, i also understand why D is right, but at the same time i feal B is correct. A little help.

Because it WOULD be fair (not unfair!) to treat them as superfluous when they are irrelevant.

The direction of the sentence reverses, meaning that the answer choices will be opposite in meaning.

If the explanations offered are irrelevant to the exposition, then it would be perfectly FAIR to treat them as superfluous, or unnecessary because they are not pertinent.

D is correct because incidental and essential are basically opposite in meaning. Because the explanations are incidental, it’s not fair to consider them essential.

lol this was the question of the day! :)
