Help with transferring Schools!

So I am a senior in high school and I didn't make that good of grades until this school year. So I'm wondering if I go to a junior college like Tyler Junior College for a semester and then transfer to UT Austin would it work out? If not can you give me some advice? I don't really want to do community college for 2 years. I want to get a good college experience and I am willing to do what ever it takes. Thanks

Probably more than a semester. Probably at least a year. One semester’s good grades isn’t a whole lot of a track record to eclipse a mediocre high school record, and in order to transfer after one semester, you would have to apply before you had even those first-semester grades to report.

I don’t know anything UT in particular. I know only generalities. In general, many colleges and universities still consider a transfer applicant’s high-school record until the applicant has amassed 30 or more credits of college course work. That’s two full semesters.

Yeah I just looked on Collegeboard.
Next question. If I went to Santa Fe College in Gainsville, Florida would I achieve residency while at the school if I get my drivers license, vote, and have a job in Florida. And then transfer after a year to FSU with instate tuition?? Thanks

If you move to Florida and go to school, you will probably NOT get instate tuition. However, I heard that if you do a semester abroad program and return to FSU, then you are considered an in state student. Check that out.

Dude, is your Google broken?

[FSU Admissions | Residency](<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>FSU Admissions | Residency)

Probably not. You will still be financially dependent on your parents, who I assume live in Texas. That’s going to disqualify you for Florida residency. In addition, like most states, Florida has a requirement that in order to be a Florida resident for tuition purposes, you have to have a bona fide reason for living in Florida. A job in Florida usually qualifies. Going to school in Florida usually does not.

My parents work for the military and we are stationed in Germany, so I wasn’t sure if that would help out in achieving residency.

Oh, military? That may have some special implications.

You might ask in the financial aid forum whether anybody who posts there has any useful information about either financial aid or residency for tuition purposes for the dependent of military employees stationed overseas. People on that board have a ton of very specialized knowledge.

I’m assuming you’re either a US citizen or a permanent resident?

P.S. I imagine the “living in Germany” part is probably pretty cool, too!
