If you have been through Unifieds I would appreciate some help. I know that you schedule an audition time for each school. And NYU Boston SUNY and others are not part of Unifieds but hold auditions the same weekend. Logistically is it possible to audition for all of the following on one weekend?
NYU
Boston
Emerson
SUNY Purchase
Rutgers
Fordham
Hartt
Syracuse

Boston is on a different weekend and Carnegie is on a Monday so that helps remove those two. Fordham is on a Friday so that helps open up the weekend it looks like. Just wondered how many auditions you were able to get to in the Sat/Sun of Unifieds? Thanks

Three a day is certainly doable if the timing works out. Some are very quick in and out type deals. Some include an info session and end up taking a larger chunk of time. It’s possible.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Bisouu. I had a unifeds question and of course, their website is down which appears to be the norm. Does anyone know if there is an overall fee with attending Unifieds? I know you have to apply to each school and they will have their own fees, but I was wondering if there’s an overall fee. Thanks!

I attended NY Unifieds with my daughter two years ago. We had auditions from Thur thru Sun. The Unified auditions are approximately 15 minutes each. With these Unified participating schools you can usually fit in many per day. We only scheduled two each on Sat/Sun mornings and two on Sun afternoon and could have done twice that easily.

The scheduling problem comes with those schools not considered part of Unifieds - like Boston, NYU, Julliard, etc… You sort of have to give up an entire day or at least an entire block of hours. For example, DePaul had a general session for parents, a three hour work session/interview/audition - and then an immediate cut. If you were not cut you stayed for another round. I know Julliard was the same - you stayed until you were cut.

Another factor to consider is that the non-participating Unified schools were not located in the same location as the participating Unified schools. Boston University & DePaul were uptown in the 50’s. Fordham/Marymount/NYU/Julliard are on their respective campus’. For scheduling purposes you’ve got to know where the audition will be held and give yourself time in NY traffic to get from point A to point B. Also know that some of these non Unified schools don’t give a flying fig about Unified scheduling and are in direct competition for your time. We were able to schedule DePaul and Boston U on the Thur and Fri before Unifieds but the NY schools eat up a lot of weekend time from your Unified schedule. We lost an entire Saturday afternoon choosing to go to Marymount’s audition.

As far as Unified schools, it is possible to do walk-up auditions. It’s not guaranteed but some schools will pencil you in for an audition if they have openings and you find you have free time. Bring headshots, resume and possibly a check book because many schools charge for the audition in the application process.

So is it possible to do USC, Fordham, NYU, CMU, BU, and NCSA all in LA on the same long weekend? Huh… I actually never have given this any thought until now, none of these are at Unifieds…and some of these don’t even have audition dates up yet… UGH!!!

Along with the Unified schools are the Consortium schools. Here is their info, they hold their auditions “along side” Unifieds. Last year, they were across the street in NYC.

"The off-campus auditions occur in conjunction with the Consortium of Conservatory Theatre Training Programs. The members of the consortium include Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts, Rutgers University and the State University of New York at Purchase. Each participating school requires a separate application. A limited number of out-of-state auditions for high school applicants can be scheduled pending availability. Please contact the Office of Admissions for information regarding the availability of off-campus dates. "

So he would have to do CMU, BU, NCSA AND Fordham all on Friday?? How would that even be possible… I know that CMU specifically says their audition is 4 hours?? This is proving to be a lot harder than I thought. We live about 2 hours from LA… I really don’t want to fly to NY or Chicago…Bisouu…where did you get that Jan 8 date for Boston?

You cannot do it all the same day, not possible. You will have to see if they are coming other times. Maybe each school is doing their own thing separately. I am surprised that they are coming to LA for only one day…I would contact the schools individually.

Thanks photomom… I thought they would be there all weekend?? I guess he could do an on campus at NCSA when he has to do the on campus at Elon… aren’t they pretty close to each other? He can do CMU on Monday…So that just leaves BU, NYU, Fordham and USC( which I am not sure of they do on campus or not)… that should work. He also registered for the Depaul Debut event on campus in Jan. where he can visit, interview, sit in on a class, spend the night with a theater student and see a production, and also audition. Then all that is left to fit in is the on campus at Muhlenberg.

Last year CMU had some times blocked out for acting, some for MT, and others for tech interviews. That made tight scheduling even more difficult. They ran out of Acting slots very quickly for the NY auditions but still had space for MT. Maybe they will adjust this year.

5Boys-You really need to find out if UNSCA is holding auditions the weekend you are interested. They also have specific audition weekends for each program.
