Hello all.

Please hear me out. I'll greatly appreciate any of your replies/feedback.

I am currently at my second year at a California CC.

This school year, I decided to make a huge change in my major (from English to Biology).

Because of this, I had to start taking a whole variety of different courses due to the many prerequisites the major has in order to be accepted to a UC.

In order to complete most/all of the pre-reqs, I've decided to stay an extra semester or two after this current one.

The problem is that if I stay an extra year, my total semester units will add up to 98! (I did the math based on which courses I plan on taking).

Will UC's not admit me? Will they only allow me to transfer the prereqs and my IGETC?

This is the tally of the semester units I've taken/am taking/plan on taking:

Fall of 07: 12 units
Spring of 08: 17 units
Summer of 09: 4 units
Fall of 08: 16 units
Spring of 09: 12 units
Summer of 09: 8 units
Fall of 09: 13 units
Spring of 09: 16 units

Gahhh. I'm pretty scared.

you will be completely fine, all of your units may not transfer but in no way are you barred from getting accepted as long as your in a CC

bump.

thanks for the replies so far, guys.

but does anyone know which 70 units they will accept?

Will they accept the prerequisite courses for my major? My general ed stuff?

'cause if I am going to have 90+ units, they’ll have to cut 20+ of them, wouldn’t they?

Or will they just reject all the meaningless, filler courses I took early in my freshman year?

I’m still kind of confused. Aye.

they’re not going to cut your units. They’ll give you credit up to so many units, and the rest will get subject credit so if you want to take upper division courses in that area, it will be fine. When you apply or if you apply to grad school, law or med school, or apply for a job you could use the combined gpa from all the courses you took at a cc and uc. Your units will be fine as long as you took all of them at community college

Hm. I think I’m understanding this a little more. I guess it’s late haha.

Do you think of my chances of getting admitted are slightly less if I have this many units, instead of being in the 60-70 range?

Either way, I’m sure I’ll be okay. I mean, I think I’m going to be doing TAG for a couple of campuses. So that guarantees admission regardless of how many units you have, as long as you have 60+, I believe.

I still wanna give UCLA a shot though. Even though it’s probably out of reach.

I have a question. Here is my situation: I went to an university in China and took a punch of classes there, then i immigrated to the us. I am atteding a CC and i will be having UC transferable units next year (I am planning to transfer in Fall’10). Am i considered as senior standing? If I am, then people who are immigrants and went to university outside of US. would never be eligible to get into any UC’s? I am very confused and lost now. Please help me!

as far as i know for UCLA, i think they only allow junior transfers, so i dont think you can transfer in as a senior.
