Do you have an explanation for the low GPA? If so, then it could bump up your chances at the UC’s since they are very GPA focused. The SAT score will also help, but unless you have a compelling reason for the lower than average GPA, the lower tier UC’s are your best bet.
I don’t suppose a bump to 3.5 would change much?

Those languages are frickin hard, too. For the schools with holistic applications, that should help by showing a) that you care about other cultures and b) you can build on passions.
Thanks, that is definitely good to know. I was hoping that they would make me stand out as useful if worst comes to worst, much like the anecdote about how X university needs more tuba players.
