My niece was diagnosed with dyslexia in kindergarten and had an IEP through 5th grade. She received special ed services and was also in the gifted/talented program. She never had a full evaluation, there was just always agreement that she needed reading remediation. By the time she left elementary school she was reading well and no one thought she needed an IEP or a 504. Middle and high school went well, and now she is a junior in college.

This is where the music from Jaws starts.

She has struggled at her state's flagship university since the beginning but seems to hover around a 3.0. She reads quickly but can take a long time to get work done. She has failed an accounting class once and is currently struggling to pass it the second time around. Her most recent test was a disaster, she only made it about halfway through before class was over. She says she studied for 8 hours and knew the material, just didn't have enough time. She was in tears and discouraged.

What would be the next step for her? She planned to go to student health and see if she could be diagnosed with ADD. I am not a fan of this plan, I have never thought of her as having attentional issues but she is frequently late and lacks time management skills. Is it to late to show up at the disabilities office and ask for accommodations?
