I'm choosing between WashU, Northwestern, and Rice right now. I know Rice and WashU pretty well now but i need to know more about Northwestern. I'm wanting to double major in music and bio. do you think that will be too much? How virgorous is their music program? I know that bienen is a leading music school, but is a double major manageable? thanks

Ps: also itd be cool if you guys told me a little bit about their campus and college life. shanks.

You have to have been admitted to the bienen school if you want to do that. Were you?

well im only a junior in high school right now. but yeah i was aware of that…also, i know it sounds picky, but what are their facilities like, age-wise?

School of music is somewhat run down, but the performance spaces are stellar, and they’re about to start construction in the next few years on a magnificent facility on the lake.

Also, NU has a dual-degree program where you graduate with a BA/BM. 5 year dual degree program. NU has by far the best music program of those three.

I can add a minor point that could be important later. If you are a musician who ends up not being a music major, but who wishes to continue music, you CAN do that at Northwestern whereas to my knowledge you can’t at Rice. Sometimes students change majors.
About Music and Bio…what is the point…if you are trying to do performance on a tough, competitive instrument you will have to put a lot of time/effort in, if you really want a future you will need to concentrate on that and travel; and if you are doing Bio from what I hear (no direct experience) you will be in weeding out classes and have to put time in on that subject. I just don’t see these things mixing unless you are in some sort of easy program or on one of the less competitive instruments, but, still, why do this?
I have never heard one thing about music at Wash U, incidentally.
