<p>Okay, So I completely screwed up my junior year, partially my fault. I earned horrible grades partially due to me transferring in between, (Three B's, Three D's, one F) I lost all my motivation(I really don't know why). I was sick many times to, causing 18+ absences. Previous years I had all A's and one B(With two APs and rest hon). This year I had three AP's and two hon, two reg(required fine art for florida schools). I am retaking the four courses and am earning A's. The new grades will count for the GPA and show up. But the old grades will show up to the side.</p>

<p>Next year, assuming I get straight A's with a courseload of 6 AP's, 1 honors, and 1 online class which is regular(required)... Do I still stand a reasonable chance. My extra curriculars include Lacrosse 3 years( JV & Varsity), Science Olympiad 3 Years(Co-Captain one year), Ecology club two years. Senior Clubs: Ecology, Science Olympiad, Beta club, Debate club, NHS 2 years. Freshman year I was in ISA(Indian Student Association), Operation Smile..</p>

<p>I also have a publication with a Cancer Research company, a publication about a topic concerning cancer. These publications are official in the AACR(American cancer association) I believe. I expect my essay to be amazinggggg... as writing is one of my great talents.</p>

<p>The reason I messed up junior year was because of sickness(Caused around 18+ absences). I also transferred schools in between so it caused a lot of havoc in concentration.</p>

<p>I also have legacy there, and she is now in medical school at FSU. I have another sis recommended to hons college at UF but didnt choose UF(Going to direct-medical program- so two doctor siblings)..(Hopefully these relationships can impress them). </p>

<p>I need some guidance</p>

<p>Dont count on the legacy thing, it dosnt mean much. Im not sure how they weigh grade forgivness.</p>

<p>there’s a section on the application to make note of special considerations like being sick. no one on here would have a useful interpretation of you’re chances because you are a special case, however.</p>

<p>it might not be a bad idea to find someone to email and ask what they do for situations like this.</p>

<p>Yea just talked to my GC he said even though they look down on it they view the app holistically and I should have a good chance…</p>

<p>not really. they don’t see any grades from your senior year when they make the decision.</p>

<p>Yes they do… They see First quarter grades, and then they ask or give you an option to send in your semester grades before february 10…I think some people that get academic probation for acceptance get their whole year monitored…</p>

<p>Oh yea, just saying but shouldn’t you know this since your at UF im assuming?; they ask you to send your senior grades in even after the year ends. They can always withdraw someones acceptance through this method too…</p>

<p>But there was a similar situation where a student recieved a D in pre-calc, but was still accepted even without a retake…</p>

<p>no one i knew communicated their grades with the university until final transcripts were sent, nor do i recall ever being given the opportunity to report them.</p>

<p>i don’t even think my school kept records of grades by quarter.</p>

<p>When you apply you can send in your current senior grades… December 31 is the deadline for submission of all materials, whereas nov 1 is application deadline… says on site</p>

<p>remember I retook two classes and earned an A, am retaking the other two and getting an A most likely… Only the new grades count… The other grades just “show up to the side” according to my GC…</p>

<p>btw does the school send in your transcripts? Or do you put it in your application package? What really does the school give to UF? Can they actually ‘tell’ UF if a student failed a class etc… or do they just send the required stuff and not verbally communicate with UF…?</p>

<p>the school sends the transcripts, but you have to tell them to. whether a failed class shows up on your transcript or not is entirely dependent on district policy, i imagine.</p>

<p>also, even better if you can submit your grades before january. my district didn’t post grades until after winter break though.</p>

<p>But honestly, how much do you think this will affect my chances? I mean everything else except those four junior year classes are fine… I am retaking them, and the GPA will be based on the new grades… SAT is definitely in top 5% of UF admits… Class rank could be better but fine as it is…</p>

<p>So do you think my chances are diminished because of the grade forgiveness? I’m really worried about this.</p>

<p>I’m not sure how UF looks at grade forgiveness grades. I think they use your new grades into the recalculated UF GPA so I would assume you’re fine. Everything looks good.</p>

<p>And no, a 2080-2100 is not in the top 5%. More like around the top 25%.</p>

<p>The average is like 1850 around there if you check at collegedata.com</p>

<p>Its atleast top 15% I would assume, because the 2100 mark makes score differences much smaller.</p>

<p>If you are talking about UF freshman, then you are in the top 25%, not 5%. </p>

<p>If you are talking about applicants then yes, you would be much higher.</p>
