Help!

I tried submitting my application to Boston College and Syracuse University, but my counselor sent one of my recommendation letters through the mail. The problem is, in order to submit the common app to these institutions, I had to select two teachers online. Is there any way I can submit it? It's impossible as only one of my recommenders sent it online whereas the others sent it through the mail.

Just “invite” them in the Common App “school forms” section. Even if they already sent it, at least it will let you complete that section.

Teachers don’t always get their recs in on time and you aren’t penalized for this.

I was in that situation, too, and I had no trouble submitting the app anyway. The second teacher (which you will have to select as your second “recommender”) will just say “invited on xxx,” but that won’t stop you from submitting.

My teacher allegedly had technical difficulties submitting her letter, and she just handed me copies to send myself. I’m not sure if that’s all right, but the Common App certainly didn’t give me any trouble.

You still need to invite and assign your teachers within the Common App Online. If your teachers have already sent their letters via mail, invite them without adding their email address. The Common App system will automatically assume that they are sending their forms via paper. You can then assign them to BC and Syracuse and submit.

Hope that helps! Good luck.

Unfortunately, I just realized and did what you said, MacGyver. Thanks a lot! I signed my applications late, hopefully I wont be penalized for this.

Also, do you think it necessary to call the schools to excuse my lateness in submitting the app?

how late were you?

Its possible it is fine. Don’t call them and bring attention to the fact that you missed the deadline.

I was late by approximately 26 minutes attempting to figure out the whole recommendation issue. I almost had a panic attack because I had already submitted my supplements and pages.

***paid
I’m sure they’ll know I was late as I signed it late with the date 1/2/2012

Think good thoughts.

You had your supplements in, so that’s a plus. That’s better than most of the kids on CC tonight.

Wanna take bets on how many will have submitted their apps but forgot to make payment, or submitted their supplements but forgot to submit their app? I hate this time of year on CC!

Me too. In truth, it’s my fault for waiting so long to finalize things. But I just took so long editing my essays, trying to polish them as much as possible. Oh well, I was able to send the app to schools that only required one letter. It’s all a matter of waiting now. Thanks SamuraiLandshark, your words help :)

Good luck! Procrastinating is a hard habit to break. (Make sure you don’t do this in college - professors aren’t usually sympathetic about turning stuff in late!)

that was me exactly. i was so so unbelievably confused by the recommendation part… and it didn’t help that i could feel my heartbeat accelerating insanely.
i’m actually still freaking out because i CAN’T make the payments and am trying to email admissions offices now to beg them to still consider my application if i pay and submit SAT scores tomorrow. if that doesn’t work, well, i just won’t be making the same mistake with my georgetown app. i hope i’ve finally learned my lesson… smacks wrist
