So all of this news about admissions has got me freaking out!
I'm not a superb applicant, but I still thought Irvine would be a good fit.
I have a 4.3 weighted GPA and a 3.8 Unweighted (Not California, I live in Maryland).
I got a 1920 on my SAT. I took 1 Ap class sophomore year, 3 AP classes last year and I'm taking 4 this year.
I have TONS of extracurriculars and awards with them.
I'm just really nervous since Irvine was my first choice. I got accepted into Maryland's honors college too, so that's a good sign, but I'm just SO NERVOUS (as you can tell).

Also, is it a bad sign if I haven't heard anything yet in regards to scholarships? If I haven't received my admissions decision yet, am I still eligible for scholarships? I can't afford school without them :(

Also on a side note, I put my intended major as International Studies and my second choice as undeclared. However, having done more research after submitting my application, I found that I would much rather be a Film and Media Studies major. If I am accepted, will it be possible to switch it?

Why? You really think Irvine will reject you with a 4.3? Relax…

You probably didn’t get the Regents’ Scholarship, considered the “most prestigious” by UC Irvine. I got that, but do you know how much it’s worth? $2,500, thanks to CA’s huge defecit. Yeah, not much at all. You might be eligible for financial aid though :).

Maybe, yes. Depends on how crowded that major is, I heard Film and Media Studies is pretty popular at Irvine though.

You will probably get in. However, you’ll also probably be paying most of your tuition/fees in loans. As a California resident who’s family income is relatively low, even I have to take out some pretty hefty loans to get by. The housing cost here is ridiculously high. As an OOS student, I wouldn’t get my hopes up for really good gift aid. There are scholarships that you can compete for later on, but they’re generally hard to get.

I’ve never heard of Film and Media Studies at UCI, but if it’s not Engineering or Business Admin., I’m willing to bet that you can easily switch in. At orientation, you get asked if you want to change major and it’s done right there. Takes like a minute. Honestly though, UCI is a great school, but it’s probably not worth $37,000 a year+housing for something like FMS.
