Help!

Either motivate me or put my mind at rest because at the moment I’m feeling pretty stressed as well as hopeless… I am a homeschool student who doesn’t get out much… *I have no volunteer work (although I am hoping to get some in this summer). *I have no extracurricular activities. *All I have done with my time is locked myself in my room to read and write. *I do write… *Alot. *I read like an addict, and have built an education around it. *My SAT score is low, as of now, with a 1710 composite. *The things is, I have a strong desire to attend Brown University. *I really, truly want it… *But I haven’t prepared. *Does anyone know anything about the real nitty gritty of Brown admissions? *Would they even look at a homeschool student with little accomplishments outside the home even if she can write decently well? *Someone please tell me if I should even bother or if I should put this fantasy to rest. *

Bye the way, for anyone seeing the asterisks… I’m not sure how they got there, but I am doing this on my phone so maybe that has something to do with it.

well if you have 0 extra curriculars, 0 volunteer hours, and a pretty bad SAT score you probably have about 0 chance of getting in, unless you did something pretty amazing youre not writing or your parents are wealthy alumni that donate heavily

What year are you? If you can seriously put in some work, then yes, you have a chance. Right now, you aren’t providing a very convincing argument for why you should attend Brown.

You must realize that to be seriously considered for admissions, Brown must not only be the right fit for you, but YOU must be a good fit for Brown. What that second part means is that the admissions committee is looking for people who can bring something tangible and unique to offer to the community.

Not being a good candidate for Brown (which you really don’t look like that, or not from what you’ve said.) should not make you depressed, stressed or hopeless. In fact many students who have a stronger application presence, will also not get in. Instead you should seek out some realistic, positive college guidance. There are lots of interesting liberal arts etc schools where you will find many of the things that you have liked about Brown and which will be a better, more likely match for you.

@ Bruno14 I will be a sernior this coming school year. I want to work for it too, I just think t may be too late. I know that you can’t really have SAT section scores below 700, and I am confident I can’t there with reading and writing, but not math… How much do extracurriculars matter? And if I CLEP college courses by exam, will they value it the same as if I attended the class?

@ BrownAlumParent

True. The college admission process in general hit my like a ton of bricks when I realized how unprepared I was. I always thought for some silly reason that reading college level work would get my somewhere, but that was my homeschool bubble. Thank you though, and I will do broader research on that to find the right fit.

@ mmaatt

Right, as that would be perfectly logical. If I can’t attain all three though, over the course of the summer, I wonder if I’m already doomed.

I do realize that. I understand that a school like that will only want highly motivated people who will take on risks and challenges later and represent the school well as they become successful. I know what that means, I just have trouble translating that to the application.

Wow, what the hell was wrong with me the other day? I sound like a pathetic school girl… Anyone know how to remove threads?
