So basically after posting around on these forums i've found out that everything that i thought about where i wanted to go was wrong... i'm going to be a senior next year. i have a 3.83 gpa on a 4 pt scale.. im 25/686 in my class and i have an 1890 sat score(690 math, 570 cr, 630 writing). My problem is that financially i can't afford more than 10,000 a year(after merit/need aid). Basically i live with only my dad who makes about 70k a year and he's the only contributor,,, i'm a white male, and also i'm pretty much looking in state(texas) since it's cheaper. I know my reach/match schools but what i need now are safety schools that i'm for sure accepted into and can get A LOT of money to attend. The college also needs to have some sort of chem, bio, or pre-med major..

Since you live near Rice, what about Univ of Houston? That might be a safety for you.

Yep! That’s pretty much my on safety the problem with something like tcu or other private universities is that they’re sooo expensive… unless there’s a school that is known for being scholarship-happy that I don’t know about?

Look at the scholarship websites of:

Texas Tech
UT-Dallas
UT-Arlington
UT-San Antonio [Scholarships | UTSA | The University of Texas at San Antonio](Scholarships - UTSA One Stop)

It looks like in addition to filling out scholarship apps for each university, you also have to fill out the app on applytexas.org

Okay… well it seems to me that its too early to do the UTSA app because you have to already be admitted. That’s one thing that I don’t understand about scholarships in general… most don’t let you know if you get any money or not until after you’ve committed to a school. And an important part of choosing a school is knowing how much money you’ll have for college.

To get the COA down to $10,000/year, you either need a full tuition scholarship or cut the COA by commuting and living at home.

It looks like you would qualify for a full tuition scholarship at McMurry:

There are some out-of-state schools where you’d get full tuition in this list:
