Problem...so I submitted my common app weeks ago (I applied EA to Harvard and got deferred). But, today my guidance counselor decided to call me in to her office to let me read the rec letter she wrote. My first thoughts? "Hmm..this sounds awfully like the CV I gave you." Literally one/two sentences were word for word taken from my own writing. I mean the CV was very well written. But, now I'm afraid the letter seems so much more generic because I attached my CV to my common app as "added information." The admissions committees will probably make a connection. How much does this hurt me? I cant control my idiot guidance counselor :( the one who knew me for three years retired last year.

If you really feel this strongly than be assertive and ask your guidance councilor to contact the school about the letter they wrote for you. Probably won’t change the Harvard outcome unless your lucky but for schools that haven’t responded there is hope

My thing is - how much will this affect me? Ivies I’m applying to are another story but for NYU, GWU, Georgetown, UNC, Tufts and JHU. I have awesome EC’s, top-notch essays, 3.8, 2200/31 (probably not gonna submit ACT). I’m just so angry.
