Help :(

Freshman intended CS/Stats/Bio major. (2 of 3)
Pulled a 2.7 last semester and got a C- in Math 1B.

Do I need to retake this course in order to pass prereqs for both majors? Also, I know I ****ed up but how likely would this 2.7 affect internship opportunities, getting a double major and overloading on classes.

Any help/comments would be appreciated.

As a CS major, I think that just as long as you have a 3.0+GPA you’re fine. And if you do, make sure to put that on your resume. What really separates you from the crowd as a CS major is prior experience and personal projects. One of the greatest things about being a CS major is that you can always learn and create new things on your own. So I would suggest to keep your cumulative above a 3.0 in order to be able to put that on your resume and work on broadening your skill set and projects. I suggest joining a hackathon or getting a group of friends to start on a project. You shouldn’t have a tough time landing an internship if you adhere to learning and coding on your free time.

As for your question about pre-reqs., I know that the CS department looks at the average for its technical pre. reqs., so you’re fine if your technical cumulative is above a 2.0.

According to the stat major website, [Statistics Major](http://www.stat.berkeley.edu/94#Prereqs), “*A letter grade of a C or better must be earned for EACH prerequisite.” I’m not sure how strict they are about that though. You can always email the adviser to make sure.

CS is currently not capped, so you just need a 2.0 GPA in the prerequisites.

However, there are rumors on this forum that the increasing popularity of majoring in CS may mean that it may be capped so that a minimum GPA higher than 2.0 is required to declare the major.
