Wake is tougher to get into than unc when youre instate. A black male student with lower scores than yours from our area (western NC) was admitted last year to Harvard.

Wow...do you happen to know his SAT score?

No I don't know score. He was written up in paper and I generally remembered his gpa, because it was lower than my son's, but they didn't publish his SAT.

Oh, wow. To be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable going somewhere knowing that I only got in because of my race. I have had the exact same opportunities as my white peers. Some would say that's a stupid decision on my part, but it's just how I feel about it.

That's an admirable attitude, but why turn anything down. Other people get into places because they can afford expensive prep schools, spend oodles of money on SAT prep, are legacies or are athletes. Take what is offered and then show your stuff there!

Yeah, I suppose that's true. Although, I could just take some prep classes and boost my SAT score (v/m/w:580/570/550). Then, I would feel like I deserved my place.:)

definitely check out boston college, sounds like it'd be a good match for you: size is around 9000, location is right outside boston, subway stop on campus, marketing/econ major, music/band/chorus. what else? the only thing you might not be cool with is that its catholic, but lots of people there are different religions/not religious and still love it.

I looked at boston college and it is a great school. But, I believe it's a little too conservative for me.

i doubt it. my older brother is a sophmore at BC now. he is openly gay, very active in the college dems and loves it (even tho they did cancel a gay dance last semester). my fam isnt catholic either. BC's my dream school so i know alot about it. pm me if you want.

my advice: just go VISIT colleges... even if you don't think you'll be interested in them. when i was in your place, last year, i was dead set on going to Wesmont (a private christian college)... like you, I had no clue where else I should even apply. However, after visiting colleges over the summer and during the fall, I ended up not even applying there and LOVING USC after I visited it... so don't stress, don't worry about numbers yet... visit campuses and you'll find the place for you : )

I'll definitely consider that, Sarah.

duke=reach? NO! unless the person's black i don't see it happenin...

uh...I am black...

Besides, the only thing "wrong" with my stats is my SAT score. I hate to break it to you, but the SAT score isn't quite as important as a lot of you would like to think. My Aunt Faye happens to be on the admissions board for Duke and the topic has come up and I assure you all numbers (such as the SAT score) just isn't as important as they once were. Nowadays, such scores are common and subjective. I can say with confidence if you guys really want to get into the school of your dreams (or atleast Duke) focus on building character, not various numbers.

Sorry, I had to rant about that. I figure my very own thread was an appropriate place.
