I am a junior and I am taking 4 AP tests in May: Lang, Physics B, Chem, and US History. I think i would need to cram a lot because I am aiming for at least 4s on each test and hopefully a 5. But I'm also trying to cram for studying the SATs.

So I need help scheduling or picking which days I should take the SAT and SAT 2 subjects. I originally planned to take the SAT at May, then decided for June. Then i thought about subject tests, I'm planning to take math 2, physics and chem.

So, should I take the Sat at June, then the subject tests at fall (oct, november).

Or SAT at may, and subject tests in june.

Or subject tests in may, and SAT in june.

Or just the subject tests in MAY/June because it would be at the same time of the AP exams which Im studying for, and the SAT at fall.

also, it would be my first time taking the SAT, and I plan to at least break 2000 and I just started studying, My psat was only 195.

So what do you think would be the best combination for me to pick.

PS: I dont plan to apply EA/ED to any schools, I am only applying to UCs and Cal States.

Since you have never taken the SAT I recommend that you take it in May. Don’t take it cold. Prepare.

Take the subject tests in June Pick US history as one these since you’ll be studying for the AP US History and there is synergy between the study you do for that and for the SAT 2. You may want to take English Literature for the second SAT 2. It depends on your English skills, and how you have been doing in Lang. Look over Sat 2 sample tests for Math 2, Physics and Chemistry and decide which is easiest for you. Take the SAT 2 in that subject. Note though that the UCs require at most 2 SAT 2s.

Plan to retake the SAT reasoning in October. (In prior years no tests were offered in September).

I would give you different advice if you were applying to private very selective colleges.

Thanks! Also I’m was just planning to take subject tests for chem, physics, and math 2.

Also did you hear that the sat was getting some changes soon or something. So what are your opinions on that? Do you think it will change so that it would include new or different things during the fall. Would I have to study for new things?

College Board would not implement the new test without making a huge announcement about it. It’s likely that the new test won’t happen for a couple years and will only be applicable to the class of 2016 on.

I would still suggest June for your subject tests.

And, like fogcity, I would strongly suggest you take US History instead of 2 sciences.

Ok thanks. Ill think ill take subject test for chem at may. Then math and physics in June. Then I’ll study for the sat over summer.
But why us history, is it easier because I would have studied for it. Also, I’m just taking the science and math because I plan to be a science/math/engineering major.

I’m in the same boat, it’s just not possible to study for AP and SAT at the same time, lol. I think I’ll be taking SAT 2’s in May, SAT in June, and again in October. Good luck, this post was helpful!

If you are taking AP this semester, you should take the subject tests in May or June this year. My daughter got 5 in her APUSH last year and she found it not very confident to take the subject test last Fall as it has been several months in between. While it does not really matter when you take the SAT I as long as the scores are available before application deadline. After all, you only need 2-3 subject tests for most school. So be selective. For example, it is not very useful to have a US History subject test if you are applying to engineering or science major.
By the way, I set the schedule for my daughter (who is in junior) to have SAT I and ACT all done in March, so she can focus on the AP and SAT II. I told her to avoid re-taking SAT/ACT in Fall as she should be focusing on school applications.
