Help!!! Gwu is my dream school and I was wait listed :( what do I do?! I NEED to go!!! Suggestions??

Please…I need some advice!

Hi, I’m the parent of a student at GW, and while he got in without being wait-listed, he was wait listed at 2 other schools, and eventually (sometime before high school graduation) got offered spots at both. They didn’t offer very good financial aid compared to GW’s package, though, and he was very happy to get into GW, so he didn’t even consider switching schools. Of the 2 schools that accepted him from the wait list, one had comparable admit rates to GW’s and the other had a lower admit rate.

What I’ve heard from other people whose kids got into schools where they’d been wait listed and really wanted to attend was that they went beyond just sending back the statement of interest, and wrote letters about why they wanted to attend that school. One had a letter written by an alumna who knew her.

I think you should express your interest to GW without badgering them, but do more than just letting them know that you really want to attend. Meanwhile, go to the Admitted Student Days at the colleges where you’ve been accepted, and be open minded about choosing which one of those schools would be best for you.

Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Thank you so much! That is very very helpful! I have already drafted a letter, do you think it would be helpful for me to revisit?

some kid created a music video or something a couple of years ago about why u michigan should accept him off their waitlist. you could try sending something creative like that, though it’s probably a massive longshot. quite risky, but it might work
