help!!

If you will be a high school senior in a week…September 2013…with the intention of going to college in sept 2014, you NEED to take the SAT and/or ACT as soon as possible in the fall. The deadlines for many merit scholarships require an application for admission prior to December 1 (and this would need to include your SAT or,ACT score).

If you do NOT take, the SAT until you graduate from high school…sometime after June 2014…you will not have the necessary application materials complete for college in September 2014.

In other words…either plan to take the SAT or ACT ASAP, or plan to wait a year to start college.

You NEED those SAT or ACT scores for admission to most colleges. You need them for merit ward consideration at all colleges (even test optional schools require these for scholarship consideration).

purpleacorn- what are the requirements for the SAT or ACT test?
And what are essays & recommendations?

thumper1- which test is better SAT or ACT?
And I’ve searched about SAT test date. And They say SAT is offered seven times in the year. In October, November, December, January, March or April, May, and June (according to Wiki). So I would take it in June if thats right?. And what about TOEFL?

You didn’t answer me about how I can get recruited. So I would be able to earn Athletic Scholarship?

No. You have to take it in October if you want to apply soon. If you take it in June of 2014 that will be past the application deadlines. Most of those deadlines are sometime late this year, or very, very earlly in 2014. Look up the schools you are interested in and see what their deadlines are. You must have your test scores in before the deadlines.

As for athletic recruiting, start here: [Athletic Recruits - College Confidential](Athletic Recruits - College Confidential Forums)

I believe it’s a little late to start the process for being a recruited athlete if you want to start college in the fall of 2014. But start researching it.

But if I took the test in October and the test includes senior high school classes , I will face a problem cuz some of the questions will be from senior high school classes?

And why is it little late for being recruited athlete?

Khalid, the tests do not relate to specific high school classes–go look at sample questions on the SAT or ACT websites and you’ll see for yourself and will also be able to gauge which of the two tests you are best suited to.

The fact that you don’t even know what essays and recommendation are tells me that you have a LOT of research and preparation to do before you can proceed with applying to US colleges, and it will take a lot more than peppering this thread with a bunch of questions. You’ll need to evaluate what colleges night be appropriate for you on the bases of academics, sports, location, etc.; study for and take the necessary standardized tests; understand the application and financial aid processes and athletic recruitment procedures at each school; secure recommendations from your teachers and school counselor; compose your admissions essays–all while continuing to do well in your senior year classes. It’s a big job, one that most international students have begun long before the end of August. You may indeed want to consider taking a year off so that you can handle everything properly and maximize your opportunities.

Khalid…if you plan to attend college in September 2014, then you need to take the SAT in October. You absolutely need these SAT scores from the October sitting so that you can send your college applications early enough for some merit aid consideration…which often means applications need to be sent before December 1.

I’m not sure why you keep saying you plan to take these tests so much later in your senior year.

Colleges REQUIRE the SAT or ACT as part of your application for admission. You can NOT wait to take this test until June if you intend to start college in fall 2014.

To be blunt…you SHOULD have taken the SAT or ACT in May or June of your junior year. That is what the VAST majority of high school students here do. Then if the scores are not where they would like them, they retake in October of their senior year.

So…do not delay. Sign up for the October SAT. Do it soon! There are limited seats at each testing center.

Another thing…colleges send out their admissions decisions in April with the date of May 1 as a required date for making your college choice and sending in your deposits. If you haven’t sent your SAT or ACT scores in because you haven’t taken the test…you will have NO college acceptances for fall 2014 and certainly NO financial aid.

Mommaj- I thought that essay & recommendation was for the SAT thumper1-Ok I will take the SAT in October. And I sign for it asap. But what if I didn’t do well in the test. When I could repeat the test again?. And should I do the essay & recommendation before I sign for the SAT?

Khalid…ask your teachers for recommendations immediately when school starts. Does you high school provide any assistance to students who wish to go to college? Regardless…follow happymoms advice and make THAT appointment ASAP!

Essays…look for the Common Application and see what the essay prompts we’re for last year. They probably won’t change a whole lot. Start a word document with an essay or two…keep adding to and editing that essay. Once the application is out with this years prompt, you should have at least some decent ideas for this years essay.

Another thing…read the websites for,the colleges to which you apply very carefully for DEADLINES…and do NOT miss those deadlines. In fact, get the stuff submitted early.

Kahlid13 -

This whole string of questions of yours is why I told you to contact EducationUSA. They can help you sort through all of this. It is what they are there for.

happymomof1 I went to the Consulate in Dubai. And they said I need to take an appointment. And I will see what I can do. But I wanna ask about the SAT test fee waiver. How I can apply for it?. And I’ve readed about it and they say I need to talk my high school counselor. And my high school start in 8/Sep/2013 and the SAT test deadline is 6/Sep/2013. So should I do ?

You are not eligible for a SAT fee waiver. These are only given to international students taking the test IN the United States…or U.S. citizens living anywhere.

As an international student planning to take this test abroad, you are not eligible for a fee waiver.

Check the College Board website for accuracy!

Kalid13, you are not eligible for a fee waiver.

[SAT Fee Waiver FAQ](http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/waivers/guidelines/sat/faqs)

Are foreign-born and international students eligible to receive fee waivers?

Fee waivers may be granted to eligible nationals of countries other than the United States only if they reside and test in the United States or United States territories.

Outside of the U.S., fee waivers may only be granted to eligible U.S. citizens residing outside the United States.

Okaay. But how I can pay the fees by cash or what?. And I’ve readed about the checkout they say I can pay by credit card but is that safe?

And even my parents are kinda concern about giving the credit card number or other details?

yes…paying for the SAT by credit card is safe.

It is a secure site. You pay be credit card.

You will also need to pay by credit card when it comes time to submit the Profile if your colleges require it.

Both the SAT and Profile are administered by the College Board.

But for payment submit they ask me the card number، expiration year & month‏، the security code. The security code & the password are the same or not ?, cuz I’m not expert in that much and I didn’t experience it before. And if I gave 'em the security code could they draw out more than the test fee?. Somebody tell me how it goes?

The credit card security code is the 3 digits on the back of the card. For AmEx, it’s 4 digits on the front.

means if I gave them the security code. They won’t gonna draw out more than the fees of the test?

No, they will only deduct the fees for the test
