I was recently put into a situation where I needed to drop my lab class (one credit) for the spring semester. Seeing as how I applied to Berkeley and Davis, is there anything that I can do at this point? This lab class will be the only course that I'll be missing from IGETC. I plan on taking it during the summer, but I now realize that that might not be good enough. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience and I didn't realize the weight of my decision at the time that I made it. Nonetheless, what action should I take now that I'm in a situation where I am no longer planning on completing IGETC? My major is Psychology and I have completed all of the necessary requirements for it.

Let your UC’s know asap. What’s your GPA and how much of your major prep classes have you completed? Not completing IGETC but having a decent GPA and all major prep courses finished should still give you a great chance at Davis. Berkeley is another story I believe, especially with majors like psychology, IGETC is a must just to stay competitive.

I have a 4.0 and will have completed all of my major’s preparation classes after this semester. The only class that I will be missing is this 1 credit lab (which I plan on taking over the summer, though I realize that it’s kind of pointless as it won’t be included in my IGETC’s completion).

I recall seeing something about satisfying lower division requirements for a department instead of completing IGETC. Does anyone know anything about that?

Do you mean completing UC general education requirements without having to do IGETC? If so, then yeah, it can be done: <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors;

^ That is the admission requirement. Each UC has their own custom general education guide.

Oh. I see.
