help!

Hey guys! I am in desperate need of help so I am going to be a senior in high school and plan to apply to:
Nevada reno
Marist university
Ole Miss
Texas State University
Arizona State University
Kansas State University
LOUISIANA state university

My weighted GPA: 3.0
I know it has to go up because most schools want an unweighted GPA of 3.0 so what's my unweighted GPA right now and can it go up?

I took the sat for the first time in June and scored low so I am working on increasing my scores and will take the act in the fall

June sat scores:
cr -450
m-330
w-400

Also how are my chances into getting into these schools
Please help I really want to go to an out of state university

You will have to calculate your own unweighted GPA, we can’t do it from the info you have provided. You can also ask your school if they have it, but they may not. Here is an article that gives you the steps to do it:

http://www.medfield.net/mhs/attachments/article/103/nhs_gpa.pdf

Your test scores are awfully low. Have you considered taking a SAT or ACT prep class? I don’t always recommend them, but I think you would benefit a lot from the basics and the test strategies that are covered in them.

Finally, have you run net price calculators at the schools on your list, and can you afford what they are likely to cost? Go to the college website financial aid page, and you should fine a link to the calculator for that college. Your parents will have to help with putting the data in. OOS colleges are pretty expensive, usually provide poor need-based aid to out of state students, and you are not going to be in line for merit aid given your current stats.

What is your home state? What is your planned course of study?

I am from California and I am going to take an Sat class and I’m planning to major in Biology and my senior class schedule:
calculus
English
Honors government /economics
Religion (Catholic high school )
acting
Ap. Spanish

Run the net price calculators first. Honestly, you may find that none of these colleges are affordable. There are a lot of colleges in the CSU system, maybe you can find a fit there that is reasonably priced.

Thanks I will look into the CSU system but do you think with any increase in my SAT and in get my grades up I can qualify for one of these out of state universities

You unfortunately probably won’t be able to raise your GPA up a great deal in one semester, maybe .3 or so at the very most, so do well the first semester of your senior year, but don’t expect any miracles. You will be in much better shape if your SAT scores go up. Have you taken any practice tests recently? What were your scores?
Finances are key here if you really want to go out of state. You need to ask your parents how much they can contribute and run some NPCs on the websites of schools you are interested in to see if they can afford what the school expects them to pay.

I would focus on raising your GPA (trying to show an upward trend). If you can raise your SAT scores or do well on the ACT, you will have a much better chance at these universities.

Do you guys feel my choice of universities are realistic?or any good?

Why OOS?? California is a very large state and you have 23 Cal States along with privates which would be much more affordable than going OOS especially since your STATs would not get you any merit aid to offset the extra OOS costs. My older son currently attends UC Davis (6 hours away from home) and to him it is like going OOS, since Northern California definitely has a different vibe to Southern California. You are very lucky to live in a state with so many choices.
Unless you can get your SAT scores up, you may not have much choice but stay in-state or attend a CC and transfer. Good Luck.

The simple question is whether you can afford to go out-of-state. If so, then many other colleges will be less selective than the CSUs. Look at some test-optional and open-admission colleges, like Evergreen State.

Honestly I want a different experience and really want to go out of state. Yes I know California has great some great schools, but honestly that isn’t what I want. I am going to apply for financial aid and can afford OOS, plus my parents do want me to go out of state since i am a first gen.

If you can afford OOS then you don’t need to apply for FA. It seems like you really can’t afford OOS. CA has about the best overall school system in the country. Going thru a CCC you are guaranteed a slot at in IS four year, and they give great aid to families with need.
