I have an overall GPA of 3.0 and an SAT score of 1,230. I need to know what schools i can honestly get into. I know UCs are out of the question but what Cal states should i apply to? So far i plan on applying to Vanguard University, Biola university, Azusa Pacific university, Cal State San Marcos and Cal baptist university. please be honest with me!

From your choices, it sounds like you’d favor Evangelical Christian universities - is that correct?
And that you’re from CA and want to stay there (or in the area).
Can you retake the SAT and prepare - or was that your 3rd try after extensive test prep?
With a better score, your odds would be better. Right now, that score indicates you’re not ready
for college-level reading/math, which is a concern.

most americans start out at a community college where they can demonstrate their preparation for four-year college rigor. that might be a route that would benefit you, too.

yes, i do plan on going to a private university in California. I have only taken the SAT once and plan to take it again Dec. 6th. I am just curious with my current test score and grades do you think my odds are low?

Is that 1230 out of 1600 or out of 2400?

2400

There are private universities that aren’t evangelical Christian (Whittier, LMU, USC…)
Your shot for these universities is okay,: Vanguard, CBU, and San Marcos are matches. You could add Channel Islands, San Bernardino. Sonoma would be a reach but it’s nice and rather residential (I think it used to be private and got incorporated into the state schools). Biola is a reach, Azusa is a high match.
But 1230 is really low and suggests you’re not ready to do college-level work, so you may be better off starting at community college and transferring.
Costs will be a big factor since none of the universities on your list “meet need”. You’ll have to calculate, for each admission:
2 years community college + 2 years at the private university
4 years at the private university
4 years at a CSU
2 years at community college + 2 years at a CSU

If your goal is a private evangelical college, you may get a better deal financially if you apply as a freshman. None of the private universities on your list “meet need” and they gap students - which means you may not have enough money to attend (unless your parents can pay full costs “out of pocket”, without loans).
