Hi kind of an unrelated note but my son needs to take the ACT plus writing but we will be out of town the day of the October ACT. Any suggestions on what to do? I’ve heard the SAT might suffice for the writing score of the ACT. Also he’s a senior but has a good composite score of 31 but he’s applying to schools that require writing.
Register to take it in the out-of-town location where he will be?
he will be on the plane that day :0
I would have him fly out later. I think a family vacation is less important than a college entrance exam.
You really have two choices.
You reschedule plane flight.
He takes the SAT instead. (However those colleges that require the writing for the ACT will probably want subject tests and I am guessing he hasn’t taken those either.) I doubt the colleges will count the SAT essay, but you could always ask the colleges in question.
Find an ACT walk in location for this saturday’s test. or change you flight.
or take the SAT (plus 2 subject tests if needed) (a very few schools require 3 subject tests and you can only take 2 on a given day)
Every school D applied to wanted the ACT with writing and none required the Subject tests (in some cases, having the ACT w/writing menat no subject tests required though they would have been had she only taken the SAT) . IDK why they even offer the ACT without writing, most selective schools seems to want it.
What about the Nov test? What about the SAT instead?

Call the school. They may accept his 31 w/o writing IF he takes the SAT (which has essay)
Are you afraid that he won’t do as well on the SAT???
Why can’t a Nov or Dec ACT work?
Are you the parent or the student? You both should NOT be using the same acct.

Hi I'm currently doing a gap year but wanted to see what my chances are of getting in at University of Texas. I have 31 composite ACT mostly taking again though. I need to get a writing score. I have plenty of EC's with both sports, student govt, and volunteer work. But my G.P.A is only about a 3.2. I'm planning on playing lacrosse there and my brother is actually a coach there and he says he couldn't see me not getting in. I just wanted to check with people who aren't related to me lol.

Unless your coach-brother can get you in UT, your 3.2 will likely keep you out.
you’ve had lots of time to take the ACT with writing…why haven’t you done it yet?
What I meant is if he uses the SAT instead of the ACT he would probably need subject tests. Sorry not to be clear.
And for what it’s worth my son took 3 subjects tests on one day, but as far as I know no college requires three scores any more. A few did when he took it.
@DadGreiss There seems to be test on September 12th at various locations in Texas.
