Help!!

I’m a high school senior taking AP Calculus AB and I am deciding whether I should drop BC next year or not, before I submit my college apps. I want to be a business major, but I’m assuming AB is enough, math isn’t my favorite But I can def handle it, I ended up with a C+ (first term) . My counselor didn’t try to convince me at all on why I shouldn’t drop it. Math just isn’t my favorite, and I would like a more relaxed class. I just feel like everyone there understands it so well. And then there’s me… Any feedback?

What are you planning to concentrate in? (accounting, management, marketing) Of course, things like accounting and finance requires a ton of math, but business, in general, requires a good amount of math. That being said, I would drop it. When you don’t like a class you aren’t going to do as well as you can. Last year I dropped an engineering class (counselor did everything in his power to convince me to stay in the class). I could’ve handled the work, but I knew that because I didn’t want to be in there my work would be lackluster and it could’ve hurt my GPA. Definitely find another class you’re interested in. AP Calc AB should be enough for you

Thank you so much for your advice, I was looking more towards a job in business like foreign trade or international business. :-*

Business actually (in real life) requires algebra. And that is pretty much it, honestly, for 99% of jobs. That said, a few top business schools are looking for applicants to take college level Calculus (one semester) prior to applying. So it depends on whether the schools you apply to are going to accept your AP credit as that equivalent (or if you also need BC). And also if your AP score is high enough to get accepted.

If you are applying to colleges that care a lot about the rigor of your schedule, then you might consider taking it. But if you are getting a C+ in AB, then you aren’t on track for those schools anyway. (Sorry, but I think that is a fact…)

So… all things considered, I’d skip it in HS.

Thanks for your advice!
