Does anyone have any tips for ACT math and science. I’m really struggling with those on the practice tests I am taking, and I would have thought that math would be my highest score. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
Just so you know, there’s an entire different subforum for those questions. Maybe mods can move this thread? In any case, for the science section just remember it’s not as much about knowledge of the subject as it is about analysis, and data observation. I barely paid attention/got terrible grades in science throughout high school but I still managed to get a 35 on the science section because I made sure to remember it’s about analysis.
I went from a 28 to a 35 by studying. I know how to study for this test and I can help you do the same.
- This is my previous answer to a question on Quora similiar to yours. Should be very relevant to you.
First of all, you’re off to a good start. Being motivated to learn is much of the battle. Secondly, study those materials, but don’t waste the practice tests. There are only so many. I recommend you only take official ACT practice tests as well since they are the most accurate in difficulty. I don’t want you to burn out, but you need to take as many full length practice tests as you can. Make these as much as the test as you can. Take them at 8:00 and wake up at the same time that you would the real test. While you are taking the test make sure to circle every question that you are unsure about. Once you take the test, check your answers. Make sure to take a break at this point or even for the rest of the day. You won’t remember anything you learn if you are burned out from the test. Next you need to go over all the questions you circled, not just the ones you got wrong. Understand exactly why you got the question wrong. Write down in a notebook what you need to do to improve, or what concept you need to go over. After this you can use sites like khanacademy to go over the concepts you are rusty on. Take all of these steps slowly, but don’t procrastinate. You should be doing a practice test every 2–3 weekends. I know this is a lot to take in, but it is exactly how I studied my way to a 35.
