Hi, I want to know the possibility of transferring from Earlham College to Denison University after my first semester in EC as a student. I have my reasons for wanting this change as soon as possible, which include me feeling the economics(my planned major) department at DU is much more solid and that my best friend will be starting his schooling there in the fall. I could really use some sound advice as I am freaking out a little. I have an SAT score of 1420 and decent grades + ECs. If Denison is a tough ask, could any of you please recommend liberal arts schools just as good/if not better than denison I have a fair shot of transferring into during my first semester. Another important factor is that I will be an international student as I was born and raised in Pakistan. So how will that effect things, if in any way?
I’m terribly sorry about the username, I didn’t think I’d ever use this account!
Why are you even starting at Earlham if you don’t want to be there? Take a gap year, and apply to places you like better. Yes, you would be a year behind your pal who is headed to DU if you would get accepted and decide to go there, but is that really such an awful thing?
Where else were you accepted for this fall? Do you like any of them better than Earlham now? It is perfectly OK to pick up the phone and call them and ask if you can change your decision.
I’ve already taken a gap year, I have recieved my student visa and just recently changed my mind.
The reason I did all of this is because the rest of my universites waitlisted me and I panicked and accepted Earlham but I really would rather transfer
I just feel completely lost and confused and I do not think taking another gap year is a good idea
I emailed a representative
at Denison and she said I am eligible to apply as a transfer student
Is it possible for me to cancel my student visa or anything off the sort
You can cancel your student visa if you decide not to come to the US right now.
If you start at Earlham and then transfer to another college or university you can transver your paperwork to that institution. Usually you will not need to get a new visa.
You need to think through your reasons for wanting to study in the US. Why did Earlham end up on your application list? What has changed so that you no longer like it? Would you feel differently if your friend were going to Earlham as well? Are you still on any waiting lists at places you think you would like better than Earlham?
It’s ranked considerably low. I guess that’s shaken my confidence in it+ the DU Econ program(my prospective major) seems like a much better fit for me. So this is why I feel like transferring there is what’s best as it will save me some time.
I am definetely on waiting lists at place s I would like better, yes
I’m confused…if CDU will take you as a transfer, wouldn’t they just take you as a new freshman now?
