Soon I'm going to college and the place where I'll be going requires me to choose my major immediately, and to be honest I still don't know in what to major. I was thinking about architecture because I would like to design, but I am really bad in math like really bad. I nearly failed physics and math in school, so I am not very sure about majoring in architecture. Another option is law but I consider myself to be very creative, artistic, and someone who would like to create things. Graphic Design was an option too, but there is something that I don't like about that major. Gosh, I am so lost and scared.... I don't even know what I'm good at.
Are you aware of how long it takes to become an architect? 8-11 years.
We are encouraging our son who would like to become an architect to pursue structural engineering so that he can get a job in the field he is interested in, even if he decides not to continue his education.
You will need to demonstrate competency in math, but being an architect is mostly about people skills. Is there an architect you can speak with? If not, review the AIA website to find a local chapter. I’m sure you can find an architect that would love to speak to you.
Landscape architecture has less math than regular architecture. Which school are you attending?
@AStarkNm If you are not sure what you want to study, you can choose a liberal arts major. If you are inclined towards you can choose the major in 2nd year. Within liberal arts you can take art history as it will be related to architecture
@BuckeyeMWDSG I’m not sure where you get 8-11 years from.
You can graduate with a BArch in 5 years and become a licensed Architect after taking the exams and getting experience.
Granted you have to get the experience but that comes naturally with the job.
Some schools also offer an accelerated path where you work and attend school at the same time.
