I really need to change my room/rommate...

If anybody knows, can you please tell me which dorms are co-ed by floor?

Also, what is Dobbs? And what is Hopkins?

I would REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT!! :) I love you guys haha

what's wrong with your room/roommate? you can go to your myhousing page and request a room change right under where it list your assignment. dobbs hall is the dorm next to the DUC. it is centrally located but the rooms are the smallest. Hopkins hall is part of the complex and is further from the DUC but not too bad and it is near to classes.

look here: http://www.emory.edu/HOUSING/UNDERGRAD/coed.html

dobbs is a dorm right next to the duc and the woodpec. it has very small rooms but is very, very social. hopkins is in complex next to the b school, library, law school, and is the closest to a lot of the classrooms (n decatur building especially).

Roommate/room changes are a pain. The res life policy is that you have to wait 2 weeks minimum and undergo room mate counseling, etc. you'll have to talk to your RHD and RA when you get to school. Your RA will probably have a learnlink conference at some point in the summer so you can ask him questions and all that. HOWEVER, sometimes if you call a lot and get your parents involved, I know people who got room changes before school started. I wouldn't even know where to recommend to you to start, though.

which dorm are you assigned?

ahh... I'm assigned to Hopkins. I really want to switch my roommate because I've heard terrible things about her, but I want to make it look like I'm switching because I don't like the dorm setup. I called housing to ask about the switch and they said you request on the myhousing page and it takes 2 weeks... but I didn't realize it would be so hard, as dgeball said...

I'm leaving on a trip for 3 1/2 weeks tomorrow, so I'm gonna put in my change request tonight. I just have to decide what my "reasoning" is-- I was thinking I could say I really want to be in a dorm which is co-ed by room, or maybe I could say I want to be more centrally located which is why I want Dobbs... any suggestions? Because I can't just be like "I don't want this roommate," you know?

If any of you have any ideas, i'd realllyyyy appreciate it if you say them here or private message me and I'll give you my aim/ facebook. I love CC, you guys are all so smart/ helpful... THANKS!!! :)

how did you hear horrible things about her already?

she goes to my cousin's school... she's a huge slut, is so obnoxious to my cousin, and is known for being really racist... which I am NOT okay with...

I was wondering that too.

I'm in Hopkins too

blaze or sewcurious or anyone else--- do you have any ideas about what i should say on the request form? ahh i'm leaving early tmrw!

well if you really don't mind, say you want to move to Thomas hall where only female studets can reside. Say you don't feel confortable with sharing a hall with guys.

I second that idea, MetheMan. I think it would be hard for them to refuse that claim.

Add that your parents don't want you in a coed dorm, you're anxious about living in a coed dorm, and you have had bad experiences before with coed dorms, or anything cheesy and personal in general.

That is such a good idea and it actually crossed my mind-- but the truth is, I really DO want a coed dorm :( In fact, I originall requested coed by floor, but the more I think about it, I'd prefer coed by room/section... ahhh...

I was thinking, what's a less desirable dorm that I could request? That way, it would probably be easier to get... Like maybe I could request Dobbs and say I really want it because it's centrally located and has coed by room (if that's actually the case-- I'm not sure...)

haha I've been refreshing the page every 5 minutes to see if anyone responds... I'm just procrastinating from packing. I'm leaving tmrw morning for Japan and Vietnam and I haven't even started!!

They'll never switch you just because you want to be centrally located. I think saying you want to be on a single sex floor is your best bet (at least that way you might ge a coed dorm). GL

She is already on a single sex floor dorm arrangement...Hopkins dorm is that way.

Really? awesome! lucky you..

I'm just insomniac/have no life

ahh I know I wish I had requested coed blahhh... and I am an insomniac well. not to mention, a professional procrastinator (hence why i haven't started packing...)

I don't know, when I called admissions today they made it seem like room change requests weren't a big deal at all... but I guess they definitely are... I'm definitely gonna be stuck with this girl... ohh well... any other last minute ideas before I try to argue why I should be near Dobbs Hall? lol

you have to give up something to gain something new man, you cannot just have everything. I know, life is hard eh? but you at least know what dorm you are assigned to! I don't even know mine yet!
