I’m an almost 14 year old eighth grader taking high school creative writing classes at my magnet school (among other high school credit classes) and I really want to attend a summer program this summer! My dilemma is that I’m considered too young by pre-college admission boards and I have talked to my teachers and they said they would be more than willing to write a letter asking for an exception. However, I’m not sure if I should give up and wait a year until I complete ninth grade to apply to summer programs. Any advice is appreciated…
btw…i have received multiple awards from Scholastic Art & Writing so i have that going for me
I’d just wait. What is the real point of doing it younger? You can still write this summer even without a program.
Keep looking! There are so many summer programs out there. Are you looking for day programs or residential?
Look for programs which are age appropriate. You really don’t want to be in a residential program with young adults 18, or close to it. There is a world of difference between high school frosh and seniors.
